Dude. We got Nazi style concentration camps being built in the US and the news reporting on some “we’ll get him with the #lawsuit guys!”

Holy shit. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. How many lawsuits is this guy gonna rubber/glue before the liberals call for a real movement.

How we don’t have democratic politicians calling for general strikes and mass protests? It really goes to show how much of a passive and useless party they have and continue to be.

They are still acting like the system that has allowed the fascist to take power is the same system that will bring that back out of power? Like, holy fuck. Stop pretending like this system works.

The courts work for Trump. They’re not gonna be the thing that takes him down.

And they’ll bend the knee. Throw some scapegoat under the bus, because this is the new Fascist America.

You chose this, America. Now no one will save us.

I can’t believe I’m living though my country’s Nazi era. History will not be kind to us. I hate all of this. My sister voted for this and I’ll never forgive her.

My entire damned family voted for it… even my closest sibling who had never voted republican in her life… that other side indoctrinated hard… I’m so disgusted, and she even said “I’m so sad ice picked up one of my favorite co-workers!” “And you voted for that” apparently wasn’t the comfort she was seeking.

Daily reminder to all ICE agents. By signing up for ICE, you have signed yourself up for a lifetime of fear and criminal liability. There are Nazi concentration camp guards that were tried for their crimes in their 90s. There is no statute of limitations on crimes against humanity. Your names are recorded; your deeds are known. And you will face justice for your crimes. And do not count on a blanket pardon saving you. Crimes against humanity are violations of international law that cannot be pardoned.

They should also remember that murder peaked immediately post WWII in Europe as people got even with their Nazi tormenters.

Your optimism can only be admired. However the US has already stated multiple times that it doesn’t care about international law and that Americans cannot be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity, or they will invade the Netherlands. The ICC cannot even detain an American. This was during W Bush and his “war on terror”.

And then Trump recently reiterated it with a new executive order, imposing penalties and visa restrictions on people even helping the ICC to investigate Americans.

Yes, obviously, but these type of comments are self-defeating and unhelpful. It’s more about trying to encourage the circulation of the idea that ICE needs to face criminal accountability. There should be a paragraph on ICE’s potential criminal liability in every article about them. People should mention their susceptibility to prosecution on every discussion about them. We should be including the topic of prosecutions in every casual conversation about ICE.

The right wing learned a long time ago that the public narrative matters. If there’s an idea worth spreading, then spread it. We need to get the idea of accountability in the public consciousness whenever possible. Otherwise, it’s the default instinct of every Democratic politician to try to be magnanimous when they’re elected. Liberals are by their nature non-confrontational; they’re happy to have people walk all over them. Obama and Biden both refused to prosecute the previous administration and tried to be grand peace makers, and look how that turned out. It will take a lot of public pressure if there’s ever going to be any accountability. That’s why we need to be circulating these ideas in the Zeitgeist. Yes, obviously this is just lemmy, but there’s no need to be such an unhelpful cynic.

Thank you. I am fully on board and you’re 100% speaking my language.

I’m a cynic because I want people to get pissed off. At least pissed off people might do something.

The left is sleeping on actually utilizing the Internet for spreading ideas. They need to stop showing up in the street and start actually producing content.

Like I just checked out Joe Rogan sub Reddit to see people shitting on him and found stuff like this. It’s funny and honestly gets so much attention even though it’s stupid. Where the fuck is this stuff on Lemmy. Are we just here to passively read articles and yell how we’re going to punch a Nazi and then not even bother to fight Nazi shit online?

Yeah, whenever i see someone here saying that we need to resort to violence, my immediate thought is always, “Ok tough guy, where’s your truck bomb?”

I do more IRL resistance work than at least 95% of the people on this site. And I’m not even talking protests. I’m directly, on the ground, working to help some of the people most hurt by the regime’s policies. I’m not into violence, but I’m not above disobeying unjust laws either. So it’s not like I’m some online slactavist that refuses to lift a finger to actually help people. The kind of work I do is the kind of thing I can’t even post about on social media.

But it is an incredible shame how the right has taken over so many online spaces. 10-15 years ago, the left more dominated online spaces. The early internet was a mix of very libertarian and progressive. Hell the internet was built from the ground up on socialist principles. But it’s the right that really learned how to use the net most effectively as a means of mass communication and propaganda. And they did so quite deliberately. There was a deliberate and organized campaign among white supremacists on places like stormfront to subtly move their message to the mainstream.

I think those on the left tend to view things from way too scholarly a perspective. Why repeat the same message if you’ve already written extensively about it before? Or make sure to not post simple understandable messages; instead start with a dozen qualifiers and provisos that end up watering down your whole message. It’s more important to be intellectually rigorous than it is to effectively communicate your values. Or there’s the tendency for purity tests that end up shoving away otherwise eager allies.

The right meanwhile has learned that even bold faced lies can become widely accepted if you simply repeat them loudly and often enough.

How does this make any sense?

Shouldn’t they be suing Apple to take it down if they don’t like it? I know they just want to weaken press, but it feels like an especially weak excuse.

So, are the democrats and the American people, and all our public institutions, and private industry just going to sit around and let these fascist losers ruin everything, forever? Is that the plan? It really looks like that’s the plan right now.

It makes more sense when you fully understand what people mean when they say both sides.

People who want to argue that point take it to mean “both sides are the same”. What it really means is both sides are complicit. It’s good cop bad cop. The good cop has to keep up appearances, to sell the illusion of choice and safety. While the bad cop takes all the heat.

And if you want evidence, just look at how things have gone in the last 40 years. Republicans take 3 steps right, democrats take 1 step left. Well, do the math. That’s a net result of 2 steps to the right without recoarse. Now repeat for 40 years, and you have a situation where it’s literally gotten to nazi america tactics.

The old barometer for how far they’ve gone is when they undid roe v wade. Now, thats so far in the rear view, that we’re at a point where unidentified government agents are kidnapping people on the street, without even confirming they have reason to arrest them, and at times killing them in the process.

Let me repeat that. We’re at a point where government officials are now grabbing people off the street and killing them, without so much as a confirmation of their identity.

But don’t worry, the democrats are going to wave their fingers in a “no no no” motion, real hard. We’ll all be fiiiiiiine! Well, unless of coarse you’re brown enough, or just mistaken for an opposing opinion.

      Yeah. Both sides.

Germany learned how to genocide from America. The USA is still structurally the same as it was during its first genocide and during Japanese-American concentration camps.

Because people got greedy and felt they could depend on everyone else to keep the safeguards in place, while eroding them for their own unjust gain.
