I’m not judging, I’m genuinely curious whether anyone uses it. Because almost every text editor supports it yet when I use it, it’s just by accident and it messes up my document
I do actually occasionally use it, sometimes it’s easier than Ctrl-X Ctrl-V
Geez, no. No, no, a thousand times no.
I sometimes accidentally do this and then get angry that the feature exists
Frequently when I’m making lists and I am reorganizing the order.
Or I’m wiritng a recipe and get the directions in the wrong order.
Sometimes I’m writing an article and I move sentences around to improve the flow of the article.
Is this using a PC? Maybe I would.
If this is from a smartphone… I wouldn’t I guess… I often prefer to retype than dealing with the select text feature… It seems I get the same experience in the most recent mobile OS that I had when I used my iPod Touch 4G a lot of years ago, why does it feel that this feature hasn’t even evolved? I can’t be the only one that feels it is terrible to use, I prefer to use the keyboard gestures than dealing with it.
I use highlight/middle click paste a lot which I suppose is similar.
Only within a web browser, generally to drag something from a page to the search bar
Once in a blue moon? Not habitually though
I did actually, but I really appreciate the visual style of teaching computer tips and tricks, you should post more of them!

No but why did you take the spaces with it? Leave the spaces so when it moves you don’t have to add it back
A lot of times its too much trouble to fiddle with the highlighting to catch the right spaces, and then drop it in the right spot. Its easier to just grab it, drop it, then edit the spaces.
Maaaaybe if I’m moving whole paragraphs around? But even then I’d probably cut and paste
I’m not against the idea but I don’t personally use this. It could be useful in certain edge case, for instance in very tricky formatting situation in a rich text editor.
One thing that is annoying is doing it by accident, especially if you don’t realize it and continue editing so now you can’t undo either.
Also, this feature should live update as you drag stuff around, not only once you release the button.
Only times I have ever used it for anything has been whenever I’ve created an account for Perplexity* using a temp email and need the verification code but don’t wanna copy or type it out.
*I only use their AI for inconsequential things that have no impact on my life and are otherwise pointless, like writing very dumb stories.
Nope, when writing on a PC I avoid touching NY mouse anyway.
