The Tyson beef plant that just got shutdown in the Midwest is going to fuck Republicans…
Not because of the 2-3k workers, not because of the increased price consumers pay.
But all the livestock owners who suddenly have nowhere near to slaughter cattle at scale are fucked. Couple that with flooding the market with Argentinian beef, and a lot of Republican voters are going to stay home for midterms.
They might not admit to themselves they want Republicans to lose majorities, and they’ll likely spend the next two years bitching about Dems. But a lot of them just won’t find the time to vote when they’re getting fucked this blatantly
Meat packing is heavily biased towards foreign born workers. The companies have complained about high labour costs.
Cattle prices are from futures market charts. The typical market price effects from narratives of “high beef demand” and “Cattle shortages” would be higher cattle prices.
The US beef supply is squeezed because some big droughts from a couple of years ago forced ranchers to sell off a lot of their herds.
Now, they don’t have the herds to supply the demand, and you can’t just magick more cows into existence. Once the problem exists, it takes a bunch of time to grow calves into cows.
The problem is exacerbated by a dynamic where the current high prices encourage ranchers to sell their cattle instead of keeping them around to grow the herd.
And if it came from Argentina like everyone is suspecting, it might be contaminated. It’s not like he’d care if it was.
China rejects Argentine beef due to chloramphenicol: investigation and internal consumption crisis
On March 19, the General Administration of Customs of China suspended a shipment of 22 tons of beef from the slaughterhouse ArreBeef in Pérez Millán (Buenos Aires), after detecting the presence of chloramphenicol, an antibiotic banned in Argentine livestock production since 1995 due to its risks to human health.
The measure raised concerns in the agro-export chain and immediately activated diplomatic and technical channels between both countries.
Nice investigative work - this is the first I’ve heard about the contamination. It looks like China caught the issue back in March, and its highly likely more of the supply chain was compromised. This would make it subject to further Chinese boycotts, endangering the Argentian economy and screwing Milei because it makes things bumpy for Peter Thiel in his new home.
This is why Trump is both helping Milei and refusing to say where the beef is from.
Serious and fatal blood dyscrasias (aplastic anemia, hypoplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and granulocytopenia) are known to occur after the administration of chloramphenicol.
There have been reports of aplastic anemia attributed to chloramphenicol which later terminated in leukemia.
Blood dyscrasias have occurred after both short-term and prolonged therapy with this drug.

That is primarily a consequence of immigration crackdowns. Beef inflation up 9% while cattle is down 9%+
this is an insight I hadn’t considered.
makes intuitive sense but do you have any links or references so people can learn more?
I thought drought was a major factor in beef supply drop but it’s probably multiple things

well maybe YOU can’t
neither can I but if we can find the asshat who can but isn’t…

Btw, these are the side effects of chloramphenicol:
To be clear, I didn’t do the investigative work. It was linked in the original Raw Story article: https://www.rawstory.com/beef-import-2677774264/
These days reading the article counts as research. Have an extra upvote for honesty tho ;)
