Mystery surrounding Senator Mitch McConnell’s health is deepening as the US Congress prepares to return from recess next week.
McConnell, 84, has not been seen in public since he was admitted to hospital in the Washington area on 14 June. Nearly a month later, the Kentucky Republican’s office has released only sparse updates, saying he is “continuing to improve” and remains engaged with Senate business, while refusing to disclose the nature of his illness or explain why he remains hospitalised.
He died, and the government is not releasing details so that there is no possibility of a challenge for his position before the summer recess.
No, it’s because if he vacates the seat before 8/3/26 a special election must be held by law.

He’s not getting better and not getting out, maybe even brain dead, so they say nothing rather than outright lie about his condition.
Absolutely nothing will happen to anyone says says they spoke to him and in fact didn’t.

Yep. A whole lot of the left - at least the online ones - seem to be preoccupied with “boomers” and other ageist nonsense (as if an entire generation can have their politics defined by the 20 year period they happened to be born in).
Meanwhile, the conservatives and their party are working to crank out people that are barely past the zygote phase and have them work in their think tanks, crank out Alternative Facts on Bullshit Mountain Media, have them installed in every institution of the land (including lifetime positions), and have them alter our government, our schools, our universities, our workplaces…
This whole thing just shows us what exactly what will happen if/when trump keels over. It will be covered up as long as possible. Just like Iran’s new Ayatollah, who has never been seen, even to show up for his father’s funeral.
They’ll pump his corpse with enough steroids to kill a horse, put him in a track suit and walk him through the front door of the capital next week you watch.
I hope they saddle him up in one of those robot exoskeletons and let him flop around in an oversized suit. Maybe they can add a pull string in the back so that his aids can trigger a reaction bark when needed.

What’s the advantage of pretending McConnell isn’t dead or incapacitated? The Kentucky legislature already took the power to appoint vacancies from the Governor when a Democrat won. Who wants to delay or avoid a special election? I don’t get it.
They are scared a Democrat will be voted in early for the special election.
Edit: I think I read somewhere there is some worry the KY constitution allows the governor to appoint and would take precedent over the KY congress’s law.
