Could not agree more with this. I know a few RW preppers in my life and I always ask them to walk me through the scenarios they play out in their head. Most of them still think they are going to be fighting against a rogue government. Of course, this rogue government is assumed to be “Communist” because, well, reasons, LOL. This, even as they can obviously see what the cons are doing right now.
All of them are utterly delusional about how it would play out at least in my view. I always ask them about their plans for becoming a farmer. They talk about how they have enough guns and ammo, and some number of months/years of food. And enough fuel to heat your house for that time, as well as medicine to sustain whatever health conditions you have or may arise.
Okay, let’s say you actually have a full X years worth of food for everyone in your family. And you fight off all threats for X years. Now what? You know nothing about how to grow crops and have no seeds. Probably no real land to grow it on. The U.S. has collapsed and unless you take up raiding others’ food supplies (probably also diminished or completely run out, so not all that viable, never mind the moral compass being broken) you are doing…what?
I think these people have watched too many zombie movies or things like Red Dawn or whatever and think they are just going to sit somewhere on their front lawn with their AR-15, taking out “bad guys” wearing clearly delineated uniforms to designate them as a “Communist” or from “Big Government”, and if they think about something like food, they just assume they’ll be munching on MREs or whatever. Life doesn’t work like a first person shooter game…FFS.

I feel like the whiskey rebellion is a bit of an unfair one to include. Mostly because rebelling over taxes was rather common historically, and now that I’m considering its a tad weird we haven’t had more tax rebellions here in the US.
When George f****ing Washington , inaugural president of the United States, leads troops into battle to assert the rule of law and congress’s ability to impose taxes it kind of sets a precedent.
America’s had a bunch of tax rebellions, though . It’s just that being a functioning democracy let us do it without anyone dying. (Save for two very notable exceptions.)

How would a civil war be fought in the US in 2025? Where would the battle lines be drawn? It seems like if any skirmishes were to break out anywhere, the police and the military would come in and reestablish order very quickly. Maybe if there was fighting within the military itself, but then whichever side controlled the most strategically important military bases would win quickly and easily. I just don’t see it happening.
I could see some kind of guerilla action, however. I could see assassinations, shootings and bombings, kind of like what happened in Northern Ireland in the 90s. Maybe cyber attacks as well.
That type of diffuse, guerilla warfare is how modern civil wars generally go.
