Nothing says you have to believe the same thing everyday, or even moment to moment. Think of your spirituality as kind of story, or a painting, or a song that you sing to yourself. Wouldn’t it be boring to sing the same song every day? There isn’t just one “greatest” song/poem/story/painting because you can’t fit all human experience or emotion into just one of them. I like to treat spirituality this way. Play with your relationship to life’s mysteries. Make an art of it to entertain and comfort yourself.

To be clear, I have some core values that I don’t change, and these inform my politics and how I interact with other people. When it comes to things like death, “the meaning of life”, the origins of the universe etc, I’m most comfortable with fluidity.

I think it is truthful, and it’s important to be honest about it-- not least if you genuinely want a way out of Trumpism. Pretending that the Democrats aren’t a big part of the story of how we got here is dangerous. We need to come to terms with our fundamental issues before we’re able to start moving in the right direction.

All this bullshit about this or that is officially dead or over in America… Democracy, the American Dream, leader of the free world etc. None of that shit was ever true. Yes, Trump is a particularly unvarnished avatar or the US, but stop pretending we were ever what the propaganda told us we were.

It’s small now, but growing. You can’t scroll infinitely for new content. It’s grown a lot in the time I’ve been here. The smallness can be a positive if you work to have genuine interactions with people. There’s no “karma” and some instances have disabled down votes entirely. You have sometimes subscribe to more than one community of the same topic (each on a different instance).

I like this topic. Pretty much wherever you go, people are practicing this kind of syncretic belief. This is why the “same” religion in two different countries has local flavor. More often than not, when a religion is expanding into new territory, it absorbs some of the preexisting local beliefs. Christmas is a good example within Christianity, with the Christmas tree.

Another example is Japan where they say “you’re born with Shinto, marry with Christianity and die with Buddhism”. Many places maintain animist beliefs alongside more recent religions. There are even communities in South Asia where people attend both Muslim mosques and Hindu temples!
