Summary

Trump’s support among Latinos has plummeted as he nears his first 100 days in office, with many saying they feel betrayed by the scope of his policies, particularly immigration enforcement.

Almost three in four Latinos (72%) now disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job as president.

Many Venezuelans, for example, have been impacted by the decision to revoke their Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

“Today, I feel the same way I felt in Venezuela— that they’re going to come take me somewhere I won’t be able to escape from.” “This is completely different from what I thought it was going to be.”

While I upvoted you, and we absolutely did tell them that. Many of them through no fault of their own weren’t reached by the message. And that’s something we need to figure out how to fix. Because with the consolidation of media and AI, this is only going to get worse.

Patting ourselves on the back about being right. Will only comfort us so much, when our lack of reach etc. Continues to haunt us

That’s where we disagree. Media bubbles exist but the internet makes it so easy to find opposing viewpoints that failing to do so should absolutely be considered a personal failure. They’d rather believe a comforting lie than confront the truth and that is how shitty people live their lives.

The internet absolutely does that I agree. The problem is. That you think that everyone else is as terminally online as we are. And in that way you are as bad as they are. This isn’t an accusation against you specifically or anything. I’m just pointing out how we can all ultimately do bad things unintentionally. By simply assuming that everyone else is like us.

You don’t need to be terminally online to know that Donald Trump is a piece of shit. You’re trying really hard to justify intentional stupidity. Empathy is good but you don’t need to employ it to the point that you force a reason to let these people off the hook. In fact, I would argue that nothing will change until we all accept our role in educating ourselves. It’s not anyone else’s job to do that.

I’m not the one here trying to justify anything. That’s you. You’re the one here trying to pull off some ridiculous conspiracy theory where more than half the voting population are either mentally handicapped or evil in order to justify your 2 minutes hate.

Simply unwilling to acknowledge that the majority of people still get all their information from the mainstream media. The same mainstream media that we call out here on a daily basis for being tepid spineless and inaccurate in their coverage of everything including Palestine. The same mainstream media that has given Trump and Republicans far too much undue deference and respect. Propping them up. It’s not that you can’t understand the people who voted for Trump it’s that you don’t want to.

The fact that you could be on Reddit or Lemmy and claim that you are somehow not terminally online is especially hilarious. Being on either of those is absolutely terminally online. Brother we both are. You just lack the self-awareness. And that’s the problem.

The amount of time I spend online is entirely irrelevant to the question at hand. Your focus on that particular point, which I never disputed, is pretty odd. You can find the information I’m referring to in a 30 second Google search which pretty much everyone does on a regular basis for things they care about. The problem is that a good chunk of people don’t care enough to find out whether or not they’re being lied to by the media they consume. I don’t think it’s necessary to excuse that level of ignorance but you seem insistent on doing so. That’s not being understanding it’s justifying idiocy for no good reason.

Wow it’s awful Brave of you to put yourself out there as an example of the problem I’m trying to illustrate. Thank you for posting this. This is an example 100% of what I’m talking about. The same arrogance, ignorance, and presumption that everyone has the same experience as you. That therefore you are superior to them. You are literally using the conservative/fascist Playbook to ridicule and other these people.

I’m sure that will win them over to your side. Or make things better. Not.

I don’t care about winning people so disconnected that living through 4 years of horror didn’t convince them that 4 more years of horror wouldn’t be horrible.

It’s funny to watch you attack them for being in an echo chamber they didn’t seek. From an echo chamber you did. But I’m glad you can admit that you are dedicated to being the problem. And not the solution. It’s in curiosity and ignorance like that that will help the fascists continue to win. It’s just too much work to ask questions about how and why people behave the way they do. So much easier to just dismiss them as being less intelligent and informed than yourself. Just like they do to you.

I’m just so entirely unsympathetic to absolutely any minority who voted for the overt racist. Like, genuinely, holy fuck, you are genuinely not allowed to be surprised by his racism. It is now, and always was, one of his primary features.

And I have a special tier of bafflement towards the handful of Arab-American communities in the upper Midwest that apparently voted for him, and are now shocked that his policies are way worse than the absolutely horrible and myopic policies of Biden. Genuinely: How in the ever loving fuck are you surprised by that? He tried to ban any non-Saudi Muslims from coming into the country in his first term. How are you possibly surprised. HOW.

I remember some footage of a Latino Trump supporter giving a black woman shit in Trump’s name, and wondering what the ever loving fuck. A variation on Hitler’s rise to power is how many figurative Jews threw their full support behind him this time. I don’t get it. I’ll never get it. I’m sick of his stupid fucking face.

I live in Colombia. People here self-identify as “white,” and they’re surprised that white people in the US think of them as a different race.

Then double their shock - a significant amount of those white people in the US will think your race is “Mexican.” Never mind that you’re not Mexican, have never been to Mexico, and that “Mexican” isn’t even a race.

Logic doesn’t matter in their argument. You speak Spanish? You must be Mexican. End of story.

Mexican is just as much a race as white is. As in, neither are real races. A real human race distinction would be sapiens vs florensis vs neanderthal vs denisovan. All humans today are at least 94% homo sapiens.

      Latinx

Don’t say this, just say Latin if you don’t want to gender or people from the Americas if you want to refer to Central/South Americans

Abrahamic religions are extremely misogynistic and homophobic.

I agree but you’re ignoring the “i’m one of the good ones” mentality

Trump says he’s only going after criminals, that couldn’t be me.

It’s like when he says legal immigrants cheating the system and legal immigrants love it because they know they didn’t cheat so it must be other ones

But you do highlight why PR isn’t a state. Democrats don’t want another Republican state and Republicans don’t like white people speaking Spanish

You can say a lot of things about Trump but you can’t say he betrayed anyone about his intentions on immigration. Whoever feels betrayed by that simply wanted to be betrayed.
