President Donald Trump’s Republican midterm convention in Dallas featured a bizarre video that claimed he was chosen by God for a special purpose.
The video, which was also used in 2024, is a modified version of Paul Harvey’s 1978 “So God Made a Farmer” speech, but with a twist: In this one, God makes Trump.
“And on June 14th, 1946, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, ‘I need a caretaker,’” the narrator says. “So God gave us Trump.”
Critics were stunned by the video’s blatant idolatry, especially on a stage where speaker after speaker had attacked Democrats about faith while posturing as defenders of Christianity.
The leader of a personality cult is doing cultish things? I’m shocked, shocked!
Critics stunned, devotees enthralled.
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits.
He actually fits the definition of the antichrist more. I guess the other ones claiming he is a literal gift from god could be the false prophets.
And his followers will think he is a literal apostle of their zombie god. Sad.
I find it hard to believe anyone is surprised by anything Trump does at this point and these clickbait titles are explicitly used to provoke shock.
We should not be surprised but we should be continually appalled. Do not normalize it.
That isn’t realistic though. We settle into the new normal whether we want to or not. That’s just how it works. We need something else to change that normal, other than outrage and emotion which will adapt.
How about those Epstein files?
Republican Party is fueled by blasphemy.
It’s no good critics being stunned. They are perpetually stultified by him.
We need his supporters to be stunned.

We’re one step closer to The Boys being prophecy instead of satire.
Just waiting on that V.
I’m staring to think this guy may not have our best interests at heart.
Critics
It’s not for you. Of course you’re “stunned.” The base eats it up.
Remember to vote for God everyone! God needs your votes! And your money! God loves your money so, so much.
If you don’t give me votes and money, you’ll go to hell!
It’s ok… if I go to hell I can just get well again at St. God’s Memorial Hospital.
The blasphemy isn’t new. See also the golden idol of Trump at a previous convention. And Trump waving a bible around upside down that he’s never read.
This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Americans invented the tent revival and the televangelist, and this is the ultimate product of that comfort with blasphemy it fostered. There’s nothing Christian about a lot of American Christians. It’s Kayfabe, regardless of whether they believe it or not.
