The Defense Department was forced on Monday to deny the U.S. had struck Iran’s main petroleum export facility after President Donald Trump posted a fake but very realistic AI-generated video showing a purported attack by American forces.
The video, posted to the president’s Truth Social account, appears to show oil storage tanks and refineries erupting in flames from the perspective of someone filming from inside a helicopter above the carnage, with an accompanying message describing the scene as “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens” and signed as “President DJT.”
But a U.S. official said no such attack had taken place, with Kharg Island not being among the locations targeted overnight in what has been the first exchange of fire between American and Iranian forces in weeks.
He only cares what things look like, not what actually is.
> “Very realistic”
> Looks like a trailer for a low-rent FPS on the PS4
Well yeah, but the Trump target audience is the people who fall for Medicare scams and fake Facebook profiles of hot Ukrainian women ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
sad Nigerian prince noises
It looks like the thumbnail for a mobile game trying to rip off a trailer for a low-rent FPS on PS4.
1000% chance Trump thought it was real.
Trump (or whatever account manager posted this) is just trolling, for attention.
It turns out the whole world is terrible at “don’t feed the trolls.”
Natalie is the whoever. She has control over Trump’s social media account, and has posted under his name, including replying to world leaders and issuing orders via tweet.
But Trump also has access to that account, and posts slop as well. He likely auto prompts whatever slop machine is built into truth social.
The Department of Defense
Pretty sure we gloated about calling it “Department of War” whenever ago. Given we’re in one, why shy away now? #ManufacturedConsent
If you haven’t seen the movie War Games, please do. Pirate it if you have to.
This is more of a Dr. Strangelove situation.
We watched War Games in high school, I had to look this one up. It’s got great reviews: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Strangelove
Yes, War Games is about the dangers of automating everything (a relatively lighthearted precursor to Terminator), but Dr. Strangelove is what happens when literally crazy people are in charge.
Obligatory: “GENTLEMEN! You can’t fight here! This is a war room!”
I’ll give it a go. Thanks for the recommendation.
I wasn’t sure the actual video would look as fake as the picture in the post, so I watched it. Yeah, not realistic at all. What a stupid fucktard.
