Simps
I wish this fool would stop making my country a laughing stock.
How far has google fallen? Reader, in 1996 they were a goddamned miracle. Now? The world is objectively worse off due to their existence.
TL;DR: they became evil
Lol, especially funny because Google’s motto quite literally used to be, “Don’t be evil.” And they apparently even use that phrase in their company code of conduct.
Google removed “Don’t be evil” from the preface of its employee Code of Conduct in May 2018.
they never actually did follow that creed. ever. at the start it was the typical immature startup. hell bent on gaining users and market share at any cost while refining their ‘products’. the goal was always sell high or go public. regardless of which path, “evil” always drives the bus.
Makes sense, that’s probably around the time they became evil.
I reported to Google that it is inaccurate. There are no signs indicating Lake America, there are no locals who know it as Lake America and even searching for Lake America on Google Maps shows no results, you have to search for Lake Ontario.
Fucking fascist bootlickers…
Didn’t they disable error reporting for the Gulf of Mexico when people did that?
Fascist little bitches at Google afraid Daddy Trump gonna take a swing at their revenue.
Still says Lake Ontario for me in Google Maps.
Google Maps in Canada has retained the proper Lake Ontario name (so far).
It’s not even the proper name. It’s the only name. The same name it’s had for hundreds of years.
A stupid, non-binding document signed by a sad piss-stained 80 year old doesn’t mean shit.
That’s what I mean by proper name, yeah. Nobody with half a brain cares what a senile, neon orange, pants-shitting, incompetent, disgusting human piece of garbage says.
Pussies.
google is garbage
In Canada it’s still Lake Ontario

Yep, on my way but thanks for the helpful guide. Just with I didn’t have an Android phone at this point…
I just wish it could sync contacts to the local address book. It is such a stupid hurdle to throw in front of people trying to de Google …
Ask a robot to do this for you. It’ll be done in a minute or two?
But it keeps nothing in sync. You’ll spend your time exporting/importing vcards.
It just feels like a very basic feature missing. There’s an app on fdroid that can do it apparently ( 2way sync), but I am hesitant to log into any app with my credentials that isn’t tied to the provider.
Just confirmed and uninstalled it.
for the US I guess

but now I realise that they added the Gulf of america, so they’ probably change it also

I heard it will work the same as Gulf of Mexico.
Americans see Gulf of Mexico as “Gulf of America”.
Mexicans see it as “Gulf of Mexico”.
Everyone else sees it as “Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)”.Americans will see Lake Ontario as “Lake America”.
Canadians will see it as “Lake Ontario”.
Everyone else will see it as “Lake Ontario (Lake America)”.
This is, of course, stupid, but it doesn’t bother me too much because Google generally¹ basically respects official country names for things. So it’s not global, just for the US.
So it’s stupid, but… the policy at least is not sucking off Trump, it’s a general policy¹.
*¹ to my knowledge, at least, and from what I can find. Willing to be told differently with sources.
Most Americans are not going to call it “Lake America” either, FFS. Google didn’t have to rush to change this.
Unless the Maps backend changed since I last heard about it, they didn’t. They use official sources in each country – for the US that would be the USGS I suppose – and if those sources publish an update, Maps shows the update, as a passive mechanism. It’s preserving the normal name against the USGS change that would take an active action.
Mind you I still think they should actively preserve the normal name, and be held accountable for not doing so. They won’t. But they should.
Maps shows the update, as a passive mechanism. It’s preserving the normal name against the USGS change that would take an active action.
That may be true for US customers, but they must have done work to show two names for the Gulf of Mexico to people in other countries, and they plan on doing the same here.
I’m sure the step to put in a small override to maintain the name is not much work - just override any ingest/import, and they don’t even have to do the work to show two names for everyone else that is not in Canada or US.
