I disagree here. This would not be “becoming them” in any way. What I do agree with you though is that the damage of “punish culture” could outweigh the gains of punishment/death in some grand utilitarian sense but from personal philosophy pov I find no problem with not having any sympathy, even as far as “treated as people”, for these objectively horrible monsters.

Maybe that’s the only way US will ever get a third party. I’m not an American but I do think american politics system would be significantly stronger even with a minority 3rd party. Can you imagine how powerful US would be with a diverse parlament that has true competition of ideas not just partisan voting? That’s true “checks and balances”.

My friend is a locksmith and if your area is not overcrowded and you can keep a good company running it’s really good. People pay a lot of money to get back into their car at 6am but also every building needs a lock and the locks need maintenance.
It’s a real business though as the trade aspect of cutting a key or opening a door isn’t difficult at all. The challenge is running business, accounting and all the certifications and associated protocols. With all that said, it can get crowded real fast so this all only works if you’re one of 3 locksmiths in town at most.
Electrician 100% and it’s really fun too.
I’m a software dev and that would be my backup trade as it scratches every intellectual itch if you work on more complex setups as well as mechanical fulfillment as you actually see your work published. The community is huge and the demand will almost never decline. The only downside that it’s not very mobile but still much more mobile than most other trades.

I have a lot of ketamine users in my town and many highly functioning ones and it’s very clear that the drug has long tail disassociative effects. They are so disconnected and zombie like despite seemingly functional.
I say this as a psychonaut myself - long term K use is pretty scary but people are afraid to shit on K because if not abused it’s seems to have a lot of powerful positive effects on many.
I definitely agree with the flawed justice system and tbh that’s really the only reason I’m against death penalty.
Some people are really really bad and if we are 100% sure they are then deleting them from the society is actually a good option as it frees up bandwidth and resources for more productive endeavours. The 100% sure is really hard to get but, as we can see, not always.
The other interesting point is that suffering in “humane sort of banishment” can be viewed as a ethical-purgatory of sorts and maybe we want that even if we’d never see the rehabilitation?
