Key members of Congress are demanding a swift vote on a war powers resolution that would restrain Donald Trump’s military attack on Iran unless the administration wins their approval for what they warn is a potentially illegal campaign that risks pulling the United States into a deeper Middle East conflict.

Both the House and Senate, where the president’s Republican Party has a slim majority, had already drafted such resolutions long before the strikes Saturday. Now they are ready to plunge into a rare war powers debate next week that will serve as a referendum on Trump’s decision to go it alone on military action without formal authorization from Congress.

“Has President Trump learned nothing from decades of U.S. meddling in Iran and forever wars in the Middle East?” said Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., a leader in the bipartisan effort. He said the strikes on Iran were “a colossal mistake.”

Excuse me but why is this even a debate? We have a fuckin Constitution that says that Congress has the power for war not the president.

This country ain’t cooked, this country is fuckin ashes and we are holding on to a fuckin lie now.

Because Mike Johnson is entirely subservient to Trump and absolutely will not do his job, which is why he has the job.

The Republicans are a majority because Americans voted for them, and Johnson is leader because the Republicans voted for him. This is Americans’ fault.

Oh, the debate intensifies, does it? And what follows this intense debate? A strongly worded letter? A vigorous finger wag accompanied by a stern, “no, no ,no,” perhaps?

Woah, a finger wag, that’s excessive, the senate will vote down even a strongly worded letter.

He’s faced no consequences for any action in his entire miserable life, why should he now? Consequences are only for poor people apparently.

I don’t think there’s really a debate to be had. Trump acted illegally, and against US interests. He’s once again committed treason…
