I think you’re grossly underestimating how hard it is to go from theory to actually playing half decently in lots of instruments.
Recorder, well you’re probably right. Piano, strings, guitar, drums and any woodwinds or brass: hell yeah
Intonation is not the hardest part of playing violin. NOT playing like you’re killing a cat is the hardest part for beginner.

When I have said it to people with the intention of them growing, first of all it is meant for their own benefit, not for getting good grades or work recognition.
I find it is important for people to know what their unrealised potential is, and growing as a result of doing something hard, and making this a positive cycle.
But the experience has to provide the rewards in itself. Pursuing external validation or trying to align with someone else’s idea of a noble goal will only lead to frustration. As well as decreased confidence.
All that said, you can’t have that goal through all your life. Do that for a while, take a rest that could be a weekend, a month or even 10 years long if you’re going through raising kids. As long as it’s in your own terms and you’re not hurting anyone. Nobody likes assholes.

What you call reliable is in the eye of the beholder though. Biasing thoughts by omission happens very often and is very effective. The way to check it out is in whatever field you’re a specialist, check how many factually correct but misleading articles are.
Also an example: Unemployment is high: one group says immigration is high. Other says economy is slow. What’s the average? Or inflation is high, and the solution is austerity. Then they claim wages have to be kept low, although it’s shown that wages effect is shortening profits, not hurting economy. What’s the average?
While the truth is that governments were printing money like crazy during COVID , and people in fragile circumstances have to suffer increased unemployment, lower wages and inflation, while capitalists have profits higher than ever.
But you’ll never find admission of guilt by unresponsible money printing on the media. So there’s no average in the right direction here.
