Quite recently, many (mostly Republican-run) US states have made ranked choice voting illegal (including the state in which I happen to live).

I foresee Democrats working hard to roll back ranked choice voting in NYC as well.

The terrorists won.

Then I’d do it.

It makes all the difference at higher temperatures. 100°F in Nevada or New Mexico is NOT the same thing as 100°F in Florida or Tennessee.

Then it’s time to create one.

“Legal” doesn’t mean shit if no one enforces it.

Alas, nothing has been enforced yet.

Will it? Will judicial orders ever be enforced? I don’t know.

What will it take for it to happen? Something ugly?

They’ve been trying to start something for awhile now. I think they’ve been genuinely surprised by the lack of eagerness on the part of most Americans to get involved in civil unrest (because we’re normal people who don’t want to do that shit unless there really is no other recourse).

I abhor Putin, but he is a legit badass hard motherfucker; whereas Trump is pudding by comparison.

Really, I’m shocked, daily, that so many Americans have rallied around this guy, McRib Bonespurs over here, as their populist “tough guy.” It’s so goddamned weird.

How can we fix it if checks and balances are gone, the legislative branch is steamrolled by executive order, and judicial rulings can be completely ignored by the executive branch?

There may not be elections anymore going forward.

It’s not despondency, it’s realism. They’re working the Nazi playbook. This is how liberal democracies die.

I genuinely appreciate your optimism.

I submit that once they’re finished dismantling our institutions and rule of law, they won’t need popular support anymore.

Look, with Biden, we knew there was an entire cabinet and group of career professionals quietly working behind him. No good leader does everything alone.

There are people behind Trump, too. But those people are terrifying, actually far scarier than Trump himself. Do you want a President Vance? Are you ready for a Yarvinian/Thielian cyberpunk dystopia “Network State”? Ready to invade Greenland? Ready to carpet bomb Gaza? Ready to ship off liberals and “communists” to El Salvador for “terrorism”? Ready for some Handmaid’s Tale shit?

For fucks’ sake, man, “Trump being old” is not the same thing as “Biden being old,” because the people behind Biden were more-or-less normal people, not Machiavellian loyalists, and certainly not a weird coalition of religious wingnuts, evil nerds, eccentric billionaires, and pro-Russia sycophants.

How is this news, though? Those of us who pay attention have been painfully aware of this for years; and those of us who don’t pay attention love his antics, because it’s entertaining, and they don’t understand what’s happening, at all (or they do, but they love Fascism).

If we could somehow cure Cluster B Personality Disorders, 95% of humanity’s problems would disappear overnight.

It’s just the perennial Problem of Evil, but with modern psychological terminology.

We don’t want pentagon officials to be handsome for television.

We want them to be competent.

The establishment candidate might not be Harris next time. My point still stands, whoever it turns out to be.

It’s fine to complain, though. We are not a cult. If the establishment candidate wins the primary, we’ll dutifully vote for that candidate in the general, and then complain about that president-elect for the next four-to-eight years, and try to pressure them on the issues that matter to us. And that’s a good thing.
