She wrote a whole series about how bigotry is bad but in retrospect, it feels like she didn’t really understand why bigotry is bad. She just needed her children’s books to have a moral message and she made a very surface level parallel to the holocaust. Then years later, she showed her ignorance about the holocaust by denying that transgender people were a target.

Probably the most problematic thing in the Harry Potter books is the pro-slavery propaganda with the house elves, which the filmmakers wisely omitted

The reason is simple: she’s a bigot. She has been successful at pushing her transphobic agenda into UK law, and she will continue to move across the spectrum because hate only knows how to hate even when they succeed.

This is exactly the reason I’m shifting from just warning people that buying her shit is immoral so outright calling them bigots for supporting bigotry. If they don’t want to be bigots they can stop giving her their goddamn money.

I support and share most of your opinions. She is a huge bigot and should be accountable for her actions. My only point is that we have kids and teenagers still consuming her books and products that are completely unaware of what is happening and shouldn’t be called out because of that.

While I don’t disagree I think it’s important to keep in mind that kids and teenagers aren’t stupid - they are capable of understanding that you shouldn’t allow a bad person to continue to be a bad person if you have a conversation about why what JKR is doing is bad. Most of the vocal pushback that I’ve experienced offline has actually come from teenagers.

The problem lies squarely with millennial parents who continue to buy books/movies/games/merch for themselves or their young children because of nostalgia. They are old enough to know better, and should be held responsible for their actions.

This is literally fun to these people. Foaming at the mouth gives them energy, it’s all they can run on anymore. Vapid angst.

I mean she has to be a troll at this point for attacking asexual people right? J.K. Trolling

Like, it’s just people who don’t like sex, I don’t understand the hate? And I’m about as far from asexual as you can get.

Irony is that the entire Harry Potter series is like discriminating against people for who they are is wrong.

What the hell does the bottom post even mean? Is she saying she prefers segregated bathrooms? I knew she is a TERF but she’s apparently also racist?

For a professional writer you’d think she would know that a quotation (even a fictional one) requires quotation marks around it to make it clear to the reader that it’s not what you are saying but somebody else. Perhaps this makes more sense:

Refusing to accept that people who don’t like sex belong in the gay category is akin to wanting segregated bathrooms in the 1950s, John,” as approximately a thousand gender activists will inform you once their hands stop literally shaking.

She’s mocking the people who replied to her.

I don’t read it like a quote. She’s telling John an opinion (sarcastically) and then letting him know the activists will inform him the same thing. It’s not grammatically incorrect, just difficult to parse (which is still not the best writing).

Not to defend her, but she’s saying that the ““woke”” crowd is saying what she’s saying is as bigoted as segregated bathrooms. She’s racist for entirely independent reasons

Did she get snubbed by someone who’s ace or something? Asexuality is possibly the most inoffensive sexuality in existence.

    Like, oh no.

    They don’t experience sexual attraction.

That means they’re probably significantly less likely to objectify or assault you than someone who isn’t ace. Isn’t that a good thing for someone supposedly so concerned with being objectified and violated, Miss Rowling?

What a wildly brain-dead take from someone who loves claiming to be a feminist.

(Yes, I know she’s not actually a feminist, but it’s another piece of hypocrisy to throw on the pile)
