Advance Wars 1 and 2, absolute bangers
FFX will always be my favorite, I still think it’s the best story of the franchise. Other ones I like are Golden Sun, FFIV, Super Mario RPG, Crono Trigger was good too (just played that for the first time). Lufia I and II are worth mentioning while I never beat them start to finish I was often at a friends house who had them and watched a good deal of it. I’m gonna try to play those soon, I recall liking the story but I can’t remember too much of it anymore.
Persona 5
Expedition 33
Many deckbuilder roguelikes I’ve played (chrono ark, lost branch of legends, slay the spire, …) but that might not be what you meant
monmusu quest paradox rpg (warning extremely nsfw)
Ok i was gonna spoiler the last one for mild comedic effect but i forgot how to spoiler tag on here and gave up
Chinese checkers
Masters of Orion 2
XCOM series and similar turn based tactical games like Xenonauts 2 and Phoenix Point (most recently Star Wars Zero Company)
Age of Wonders 3
City of Gangsters
Fights in Tight Spaces
Phantom Brigade
Jagged Alliance 1 through 3 (but not Back in Action)
Shadowrun Returns and Dragonfall
Chrono Trigger comes to mind
Grandia and Grandia 2. Atlantica Online.
I grew up playing the Final Fantasy series starting on the NES. I recently got FF7 remake on steam sale and have been putting time into that, but they did change it from turn based. I think at least FF1 - 11 are solid turn based games. Don’t think I played any after 11
Very rarely. Pokémon and Expedition 33 are the only ones that come to mind outside of more casual games like Super Auto Pets or Balatro
I generally enjoy turn based. I like casual stuff I can be interrupted while playing and not be fucked. All the way back to final fantasy.
But my favorite, bar none, is bg3. The immersion level is high for me, the overall gameplay is top end, and the whole d&d world ties the knot

Vandal Hearts
and later:
Battle for Wesnoth
I don’t play videogames anymore, but the last is an opensource absolute gem, still developed and continuously improved.XCOM (most enjoyed Enemy Within, with Long War, other versions also generally good), just a masterpiece.
Into the Breach, probably the cleanest, and a great theme.
Lots of deck-ish based battlers: Slay the Spire (1 and 2), Backpack Hero, Monster Train
The Last Spell, Battle Brothers
Lots of D&D or adjacent stuff that board/tabletop-like: Balder’s Gate 3, Gloomhaven/Frosthaven.
Edit: Wasteland series and Shadowrun series also great.
The original fallout had fantastic turn based combat, and some of the kill animations were superb
I played the original fallout as well. Excellent game, I enjoyed every second. To everyone I’ve ever known, they all unanimously love fallout 3 and 4 and know nothing of the first two. I couldn’t finish the 3rd, not because it isn’t excellent but because I went into it with memories of a top down turn based and couldn’t get I to the whole fps thing.
Baldur’s Gate 3.
I normally hate turn-based games with a passion, but they way they handled it is amazing. Combat is visceral, brutal, and rewards the player for spending time to think before they act. You can do some really crazy stuff if you think outside the
boxprism.the x-com reboot games are great
