Latest outburst comes as his push to rebrand the emerging technology increasingly falls flat
Donald Trump on Thursday opened up a new front in his ongoing war against commonly used terms and geographic names by warning that anyone referring to Large Language Models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Anthropic’s Claude as “Artificial Intelligence” would earn themselves a place on his enemies list.
Writing on Truth Social, he declared that the White House “considers anyone that uses the term, ‘Artificial Intelligence,’ as opposed to the highly accepted new and more accurate term, ‘Super Intelligence,’ THE ENEMY!”
The president’s outburst-cum-veiled threat landed just over a week after he signed an executive order directing executive branch agencies to begin referring to artificial intelligence, which is now embedded across the federal government, as “super intelligence” following a lunch with leaders in the AI industry, including Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai, Dario Amodei and others.
Yet another mental/sycophancy problem with Trump that is a 25th amendment disqualifying reason for presidency. You can’t just have surrounding lackeys just praise his renaming of things, but especially absurd to declare an enemy anyone who doesn’t follow the absurdity. Can’t have a super dumb (with a b) Fuhrer defining super intelligence.
Some stage of AI could earn the label SI. A panel of experts, instead of fraudsters colluding with fraudster in chief would set a standard, IMO, higher than current LLM capacity. IMO, SI would be a status/standard beyond AGI, which is still a somewhat amorphous definition, but one for experts to debate.
Promoting SI as an exaggerated marketing buzzword, with bonus unquestionable obedience to terminology, gives AI and our super high IQ ruler, deserved unquestioned obedience. Why would you want to regulate/slow down super intelligence trying to help us get to skynet?
Yes. That’s what is so annoying about his latest brainfart that he’s now trying to codify into culture/policy, and it’s that ASI is already a thing. And ASI is obviously not the same as AI. At this point both it and AGI are hypotheticals and lots of unknowns about them and even their definition is being pondered for quite a long time, and by people far smarter than donnie dumb-dumb here.
Renaming AI to “SI” because Crazy Uncle Liberty just has a whim is some of the craziest shit to happen to computer science. AI is a field of computer science. It’d be like if dumbass here was suddenly saying we need to rename some other field of study just because of his goddamned vibes.
It’s annoying as fuck. I took several electives in AI in university and if I knew then that donnie dickweed here was going to try to rename it decades later…jfc.
