This entire scheme was a combination of market manipulation along with a universal price hike. A lot of very rich people got a lot richer. They got to engage in insider trading while massively increasing prices while pretending they had no choice.

Starbucks doesn’t require you to have a verified identity, contact information, and credit card on file to buy beans. The companies in question could do this with the click of a button.
