I saw an article on Cuba’s healthcare recently. It pointed to how they have very good life expectancy and low infant and maternal mortality rates, even subjected to decades of brutal blockade.
Thought about preventive healthcare
Weight lifting reduces risk of death from all causes.
Wierd, I know.
Would bodyweight exercises be a good equivalent?
What about the risk of death by getting crushed under heavy weights? Checkmate, atheists.
That’s why you did so much training lifting then up, duh.
What’s fascinating is that Cuba also has the most medical doctors per capita (IIRC), they also provide more Drs to the third world than any western nation.
Essential preventative healthcare which is particularly effective during childhood;
Fluoridated water (teeth are pretty essential, also don’t rinse your mouth after brushing as you want that fluoridated toothpaste being in contact for a while)
Iodized salt (Iodine deficiency in pregnant women and young children can massively effect IQ, it causes a specific goiter around the neck)
Essential multivitamins and minerals, and fish oil.
(There’s also an argument to be had here for supplementing lithium at about 1mg daily, as it reduces violent crimes, depression rates and suicides)
I heard that Cuba is also a world leader in pharmaceutical product research and production.
Keep moving. Doesn’t matter how, just keep moving.
I’ve asked all my grandparents what’s the best advice you’d give for a young person. Every one if them even unrelated grandparents I claim that aren’t blood family. They all said this unknowing of each others answers.
My local state park has a $250/year golf pass. I play 9 holes 2-3 times a week and it’s 2.5 miles each time. Best gym membership I ever had!
Reducing stress. It doesn’t mean that you should ignore your problems. It’s all about trying methods that allow you to cultivate calmness through meditation and breathing, slow conscious breathing is known to have an effect on the brain
I try to live by a sort of chill flow chart:
A PROBLEM HAPPENS! CAN I DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT?| | YES NO | | | | DO THE THING | | | | | ------------- | | DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT
Socialising is the less talked-about one
Don’t do ass to mouth.
Is this because of the risk of worms or halitosis?
Your mom gets all clingy and shit.
very non-silent killer
WEAR SUNSCREEN!
(And daily moisturizer)
I got a Cerave lotion I keep in my satchel that has 50 spf. It is nice to have everywhere i go
When a child is age 11, tell then the effect estrogen or testosterone will have on them, and give them the choice if they’re sure they want to continue with their endogenous hormones, if they’re sure they want to start exogenous hormone therapy, or if they’re unsure to pause the decision with puberty blockers for up to a couple of years
Edit: wow, a lot of transphobes in these comments, that’s surprising for Lemmy tbh

You’d rather force a decision equally as irreversible on them because it’s “natural”?

What do you mean by that? I’m taking about actions, not facts
