They’re not particularly left wing, they just actually care about what happens to their citizens.

It’s kind of sad that we’ve reached the point where everyone having a place to sleep at night and a modicum of dignity is considered to be a radically leftist idea

He didn’t say scandies are radical. He said we’re left wing. Which is subjective to what you’re comparing to.

If you compare them to the US. Their right would be more left than the US left.

I mean caring about everyone is basically the definition of left-wing. So in my opinion this is a non-answer, OP basically did ask “why do people in Nordic countries care more what happens to their citizens?”, which you didn’t say anything about.

No they didn’t. You read way to much into what was actually asked.

Left-wing politics describes the range of political ideologies that support and seek to achieve social equality and egalitarianism

i.e. care about all citizens equally

But maybe we should let OP say what they meant

I’d suggest doing a little reading on what the political spectrum means, because they aren’t.

When you think a Siberian winter is normal spring weather, even ice cream seems warm.

Reality has a left wing bias.

Its a joke, but not really. If you base your government on the facts of reality, it tends to be perceived as “left wing.”

they aren’t really left-wing at all… maybe from an american perspective because they have some welfare state aspects like state healthcare? they are still capitalist and any socialised aspects have been diminishing intensely since 2008 in favour of regular old neoliberalism. sweden is literally a monarchy which recently joined the nazi alliance NATO, and the scandinavian states are firmly on the side of the US and imperialism when it comes to geopolitics, as well as benefiting from the incredible exploitation of the global south like any global north countries. socially they have been trending more right-wing too like most of europe, anti-immigrant and anti-queer sentiments rising. nordic socialism was never real socialism, it was a flavour of european social democracy with all the national and social chauvinism and continued exploitation by a capitalist ruling class that entails. and any commendable aspects like i said have been steadily whittled away since 2008.

    They aren’t:

    • What about social democracy / democratic socialism / the Nordic model? Isn’t Sweden socialist?
    • On the unraveling of the Nordic welfare states: increasing inequality and forced austerity.
    • Scandinavia’s covert role in western imperialism
    • Why can’t you acheive socialism through voting in our current democracies?
