I partially disagree with your second part but not because of any sacredness of marriage, but because once in a marriage a lot of finances and life decisions are made that can fuck a person’s life if suddenly up rooted. I feel like this law is an improvement on alimony because it’s a one time payment and the person that fucked it has to pay.

Really, I just like when shitty people get their comeuppance.

I don’t know how these alienation of affection laws work, but I would hope the spouse involved in the affair would also have to pay since it’s not like they don’t have any agency, either.

And yeah, I get your point about the marriage thing - if one of the people in the marriage decides to go fucking around, their spouse should have the option to cut that short without being buried in bills for it - the cheater should have to pay it all, and if the person they cheated with is also made to pay, that make sense, too.

Admittedly, I also don’t know the law to the letter. I’m basing some of my opinion on OP saying spouse in their comment.

It’s one thing when the outside cheater doesn’t know that their fuck buddy is married, and it’s another when they do know. If you willingly engage in an action that destabilizes someone’s life because you want to get your fuck on, there should be monetary consequential.

I have no patience for cheaters, especially in a monogamous relationship. Again not because of sanctity of marriage, but because of the betrayal of trust and monetary consequences.
