If President Donald Trump’s immigration round-up was supposed to be targeting violent offenders, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett said she doesn’t understand why 1,100 people, including children, are in a South Texas detention center.
After touring the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Crockett said officials there told her that no one being held there has any criminal record. The Dallas Democrat said that proves the Trump administration is not just going after the so-called bad guys, who they said would be the focus of the crackdown.
“I can’t tell you how many innocent, precious children we talked to,” Crockett said at a press conference in San Antonio on Wednesday after her visit.
Crockett said many of the kids are fighting depression, can’t eat and aren’t getting any schooling, even as many of them have been in the facility for months, defying claims from officials that the average stay is just 28 days.
This is how they’re doing it. These immigrants are here legally in the US and then the republicans are taking away that legal status. Poof, they are now illegal and criminals. It’s magically delicious to them.
Trump is ultimately responsible but Stephen Miller is architect and Noem/Bovino were the sacrificial nobodies .
