  • And on top of that, there is a baseline cost to existing. Even basic shelter and average supplies would eat up a significant chunk of $50k. Spending $20M on a mansion and premium supplies is a drop in the bucket for somebody like Musk, yet that’s literally not something most of us would even dream of having because we could think of much better uses for $20M than just having upgraded shit with such diminishing returns for its cost.

For those in the back, this is also why it would be fucking stupid for a working class person to advocate for replacing income tax with increased sales tax. The wealthy don’t spend their money like you do, so they’re keeping even more of their hoards if they can successfully trick enough people into eradicating their income tax bill.

  • Lol what? Idk what “news” story you’re referencing, but it’s entirely irrelevant here. Wildly pivoting to an entirely different topic like this is irrefutable proof that you’re wrong, have realized you’re wrong, and refuse to confront and admit that you’re wrong. This thread is also old now, so nobody is even following this anymore anyway. As such, any further engagement would be a total waste of my time, so I’m out.

Good luck figuring shit out. I don’t need to convince you; the future will do that for me.

  • Lol okay, keep not understanding. You aren’t putting together that rescinding rights guaranteed to people means that all you need to do is claim that somebody is in that group that doesn’t get rights and they no longer have rights to things like a trial. I could literally just call you an illegal immigrant and you’d never get the opportunity to prove otherwise because you wouldn’t have the right to anymore.

As for the “ILLEGAL immigrants” thing, there’s a difference between civil offenses and criminal offenses. If you don’t even know that, then idk where you get off thinking you get to lecture anybody about how laws work. I’m sorry to say that you’re just flat out fucking wrong about this. Quit parroting what partisan media is spoon-feeding to you and look shit up for yourself. They benefit by convincing you to accept the bullshit that they’re selling. Be more skeptical. Any time you see something on media, ask yourself who is benefiting from the message they’re sending out.

  • People claim to support the Constitution and then say dumb shit like this. Try reading it. It’s not very long. It very clearly spells out that everybody in the country has rights, and that one of this rights is the right to peacefully protest. You’re even exercising that same right by arguing that they shouldn’t have these rights. But they do. And the second you try to take that away from them, what’s to stop a dictator on the other side from deciding that you don’t deserve the right to disagree with your government anymore, and so cops will be authorized to break into your home and kidnap you and deport you to a country you’ve never been to.

Any argument you have about how that isn’t the same thing is just going to cement how xenophobic and racist you are, so instead of bothering to reply, just sit with your thoughts and figure out what you can do differently moving forward to develop some amount of empathy and critical thinking skills to not advocate for things to get shitty for everybody in the long term. It’s possible to grow and improve, and I’m rooting for you.

  • I disagree. Having a platform in right wing echo chambers helps them considerably, but having reasonable, unhappy constituents publicly ask questions and get unsatisfying answers is disastrous for them. Right now, even lifelong conservative voters are asking how firing veterans and taking away any hope of retiring is helping them, and there’s really no believable answer to that. They’re starting to wake up because of these town halls. Anybody else there looking for answers hears that question and thinks “hey, yeah. I want to know that too” and then sees their cowardly rep offer panicked platitudes at best or abruptly end the town hall and run away at worst. They’re seeing the mask fracture and they’re getting a glimpse of the devil underneath.

It’s important to help these people understand that they’re not dumb; it’s just that their trust was violated. They believed conmen who actively sought to trick them. They were betrayed, and their betrayers got so comfortable and lazy that they pushed things that hurt so egregiously that it became obvious that there’s no real explanation beyond having knowingly lied to them for personal gain. I would love to say “we told you so” but they’re looking to be welcomed into a group, and smugness will just chase them toward the next predatory grift.
