And that’s why these AAA investorware studios delay the PC release of all their properties. Exploitative walled gardens give them the leverage needed to charge such ridiculous prices without losing customers to piracy.
They make a great point. GTAV was barely profitable at $50…

I don’t mind games being expensive like this if they’re new, have huge development budgets, and endless replay value. GTA VI, assuming it doesn’t disappoint on launch, will 100% meet all three of these points checked.
What I do mind are the endless microtransactions after paying nearly a hundred dollars for the fucking base game. Even then, that would be understandable if it was limited to cosmetics, but instead those transactions get you access to vehicles that, while fun to you, just ruin the experience for everyone else.
And considering they already went to 70 dollars using that same excuse not that long ago and saw no decrease in microtransactions, “deluxe editions”, lot boxes and just offering the damn complete game while they made record revenue and profits.
I don’t know, for my money I spent more of the last decade playing Saints Row than GTA. If whoever holds the IP rights. Reboots the s*** of the last one. And turn it into some fever dream or some failed alternate universe. Finding a way to bring back Kinsey gat and the rest of the original crew. And do it with a 50 to $60 price point. My money is going there every time. It may have been the GTA we have at home. But it was lovably absurd in its own right even having an impact on GTA.
The amount of gamers is orders of magnitude bigger today, many of these gamers are adults with their own income, and the tools to build the games are more abundant.
So if you’re selling to more people, of course it makes sense to have the same price as games had decades ago. And if these companies disagree with me… Sure, agree to disagree, I’ll purchase your game at 75% off on Steam three years from now. Maybe I won’t purchase it at all and enjoy it anyway.
Well, i first played GTA V in 2018 on historic low price on PSN (at least on Brazil), i played few hours, get bored and proceed to play BF4 Online again.
Probably would the same with GTA VI, but i on PC now…
Problem is that it’s also an impossible equation to expect customers to keep paying higher prices despite inflation nixing their wages. I really don’t know what they expect to happen. Many people will simply wait until it goes on sale.
I guess, it’s a way to squeeze the day-one rich kids a bit more? But at the same time, you’re cutting down sales when the hype is biggest. And if two people spend $60 each, that’s more money than if only one of them ends up buying your game…So what you’re saying is, they should make it $120…
