Maybe I just don’t understand racism more than I thought. I had no idea there were a subset of rules which dictate when it’s ok to be racist, and when it’s socially unacceptable.

There is a difference
Maher is a comedian who is known for having sharp opinions and things he says. It’s not always a hit and some of his opinions (hello covid) are outright stupid, bit in the end he is just that: a comedian.
trump is (and I can’t believe im actually having to write this) again president of the US.
When Maher says something, you and I can have a disagreement about the importance of it. When trump says something, he can end the fucking world.
I gettit and believe me, you and I are more alike than were different. I just have a high tolerance for comedy and jokes, I laught about Hitler jokes when I know the guy is joking
