The Justice Department on Friday ordered California election officials to identify suspected noncitizens on voter rolls and set aside their mail-in ballot – warning that officials who knowingly count ballots cast by noncitizens could face criminal liability.
The stipulation marks an escalation in the Trump administration’s efforts to scrutinize voter rolls as the government continues to double down on claims of voter fraud, fueled by Donald Trump’s baseless allegations of widespread election cheating.
The administration’s claims have faced scrutiny, and some initial findings have not held up under further review. In Nevada, for example, DHS told state officials that its initial finding of 15,900 potentially noncitizen registrants was preliminary and unvetted, and that it had confirmed only 185 through manual review.
Last month, Nevada officials told DHS their subsequent review found that all 185 were US citizens, a conclusion the federal agency disputes.
That’s stupid. If they had justifyable suspicion that a person was not an legal voter, they would take action before letting this person vote.
They just wrapped up their full investigation.
1.2 arrests per million voters.
Not statistically significant.
What is the definition of “suspected noncitizen”? Does it have to do with levels of melanin in the skin?
Don’t forget “ethnic-sounding” last names
Ah yes, “suspected”
Here’s how you get on the “suspected non-citizen list”:
- do you respect women?
- do you feel capitalism has run its course and failed our generation?
- are you tired of the ol’ triangle of control (israel/US/saudis)
- is one of your friends trans?
- do you openly hate billionaires and maga?
- are still asking about the Epstein files?
- do you feel the only real solution to the Alt-right and Ice is a funeral pyre?
- do you care about the environment?
The list goes on but you get it.
Fuck… I’m cooked for all of those reasons
What’s the guidance provided? Who in these mail in ballots might be non citizen voters? What parameters do I use? Is it my own judgement? Am I to do a deep review on every voter? What does likely noncitizen mean? I’m not going by names alone.
Presumably, you’re supposed to ask them where they and their parents were born
I still can’t believe that in a system where you need to register to vote, registered voters are not believed to be registered.

It’s because of a particular quirk in the law that Republicans have been mad about for years.
When you register to vote, there is no Federal requirement that you actually show proof of citizenship. You still have to affirm (under penalty of perjury) that you are a citizen on the form, and that affirmation comes with severe legal penalties if you are lying.
Republicans think that non-citizens are abusing this in droves. However, many non-citizens would like to be citizens someday. Why would they give the government a written document, with their address and identifying information, which confesses to a crime which leads to jail time and deportation, just for the opportunity to vote before they actually get their citizenship? State Governments have access to all the information after all, they would just need to look it up with the Feds to find out if it is correct, or needs to be flagged for review. It’s all bonkers. Registration fraud like this simply doesn’t happen.
But some Republicans believe that myth so much that, in Republican-controlled states, if you show up to register with the Federal form to register (and not their State form that requires proof of citizenship), they put you in a type of voting purgatory [pdf warning] where they only let you vote for Federal offices.
My only question is why they’re trying shit in a solidly blue state like California instead of messing with a swing state like Nevada? Is Stephen Miller just that neurotic about where he went to high school?
They are building their excuses for why they will have to refuse to seat democrats from California and disqualify all of Californias electoral votes in 2 years.
It took Al Franken almost a year after he was elected to get sworn in because of bullshit legal disputes and maneuvering. So even though Franken’s election technically gave Obama a Dem majority in both the Senate and House, he really only had it for a month or 2 some other seat change flipped it back.Lots of Hispanics in LA and San Diego.
Hmm… where have i heard those two cities mentioned prominently in the last few months?
California has the largest population of MAGAts in the country. They’re a minority, but by sheer numbers there are more here than any other state. They’re hoping to flip CA. Not gonna happen, but that seems to be the goal.
