“Christians” are the worst people I know.

Marxists are better Christians than “Christians”.

One might assume that Jesus wouldn’t be all that excited about capital punishment considering the whole crucifix narrative.

people need to understand that … there’s serious consequences for these types of things,

I hope Hegseth understands that when the legal system comes for him. No crying about “lawfare”, you jackass.

I keep reading this hope expressed online. I’d love to believe I’m just cynical, but I’d be willing to put money on there being no serious personal consequences for anything they’ve done.

On more “mainstream” forums, I cannot tell you how many times I’d have people trying to have my posts taken down or have me banned for saying mean things about xtian beliefs and behaviors.

Especially odious to them? Pointing out that all their bleating and concern trolling about “shariah law” is just their projection, because so much of what radical right wing xtians want to echoes the worst aspects of what radical right wing Muslims do.

Talking about xtian shariah law or Talibangelicals would trigger them so hard, but that’s because they know it is true.

Does that mean the only people to watch would be women in fake beards? Maybe we can get Hegseth to say Jehovah…

Kidding aside I’m not morally against execution for heinous crimes but our system is too inconsistent to be effective. In one state a heinous murder does not get the death penalty, in another a run of the mill capitol murder does. Death sentences are disproportionately given to people of color. Death row is extremely expensive vs a life in prison sentence. Executions fail as a strong deterrent as when the execution is finally performed, it decades after the crime, long after it has left the public’s consciousness. Christa Pike’s crime was in 1995, three decades ago, for example. Following that story it was like: who? What crime did she commit?

I don’t know if there has been a strong correlation that shows it’s a deterrent at all.

Even in the United States, capital punishment has been on the wane, meanwhile, violent crime has been trending down overall for decades, as well.
