Trump tries to dominate at the UN as his approval ratings plummet and even some Republicans stray from the script
Donald Trump stood before the United Nations on Tuesday and threatened to “annihilate” Iran. Yet even as the most powerful man on the planet flexed his military muscles, he was powerless to keep the gravitational pull of domestic politics at bay.
Heading into the UN building in New York, the US president was questioned by Kaitlan Collins, an anchor at CNN, which he had banned from the White House before a judge ruled against him. “I’m surprised that CNN is here covering me,” the 80-year-old snapped. “You should not be here covering me.”
The lashing-out was a reminder that even Trump, who has expanded executive power and dominated the national consciousness, finds some things beyond his control. Indeed, 20 months into his second term, there is a widening gap between the president’s self-perceived invincibility and the reality of his waning influence.
Federal courts are reining him in. Congressional Republicans are straying from the script. Poll numbers are tumbling to historic depths, driven by persistent inflation, rising fuel costs and an increasingly unpopular war in Iran. For the first time since his improbable political resurrection, Trump’s aura of authority is fading.
I might be overthinkging or worrying too much but if Dems do win in the midterms i really fear what he will do.
They have shown disregard for the courts, and congress so its not like anything they say or do will stop him and his cronies.
After the loss I think he may actually try to invade if not outright nuke Iran. He wants to be remembered and revered so much he will do anything and completelt unshackled in a lame duck period he can and likely will do anything.
Current thinking is that they are just going to refuse to seat the new reps.
The article says that afterwards America will be “paralyzed” and its enemies will use this time to act. Which sounds like part of the plan too. With a Congress that has been intentionally hobbled, trump can just do what he wants even more.
We’ve already seen that every head of every government agency will just do whatever he says. Keeping Congress paralyzed in an pretend “legal quagmire” is just the shit-smear of legitimacy he needs to fully and complete take the reigns as king of the toilet.
They talk about Taiwan and Ukraine. They don’t mention it, but Israel will finish off Iran and Palestine and start on its other neighbors. It’s going to be bad all over, starting January next year.
