I would think an awful lot would change if the business model around most media (news, movies, TV) were different.

But, as it is, I think most media really tip-toes around things that may make the ignorant uncomfortable, since they want to sell soap and boner pills to those people as well. Zeus forbid those people were to be told their beliefs were wrong.
