Nope, far too many think that it is the conservatives that are edgy and fighting “The Man”.
They’ve been selling this bullshit to people since at least the 90s - some of it definitely pitched at my generation (Gen X):
“Hey kids, your parents are all flower children and such. Rebel against your parents and old people in general (who are just presumed to be liberals) and come join us! We have that cool edgy Rush Limbaugh and if he’s not punk rock enough for ya, you can check out one of his many, many clones, or the more fringe-y bullshit like Alex Jones, etc!”
I mean, it sounds absolutely ridiculous to say this out loud, but that’s pretty much what they have been selling to “the youth” for quite a while.
Couple that with a lot of the rather overt messaging in Hollywood movies of the 80s that made an imprint on Gen X…I still have to laugh so hard when the unhinged right wing rails against Hollywood as some kind of nexus of radical lefty agitprop.
