    I don’t see this going anywhere. The companies bought the books, what they do with them after that is their business. Reprehensible, yes, but a massive stretch to consider this illegal.

    There’s also a lot of ground between “Buying one copy of a book to scan” and “Destroying all copies of a book.” If they’re buying these in bulk it’s because there’s bulk to buy. Anything rare enough to be available in single digit numbers is selling at auction for six figures.

    Look, I get it, this sucks, but there aren’t exactly a lot of legal remedies here. This is more of a “Capitalism fucking sucks and we need to dismantle it” kind of deal.
