In audio from the fundraiser in Southampton, N.Y., which was provided to The Canadian Press by a source who attended the private function, Vance said Carney is a “very sweet guy” and he gets along with him quite well.
But, Vance said, Carney “comes in and puffs his chest out and says, ‘I’m going to, like, out-tough Donald Trump.’”
“It’s hilarious because Carney presents this as some victory for Canada when fundamentally, like, they climb down on a lot of issues,” Vance told the room.
“And the whole point of this is to change Canada’s behaviour,” Vance said. “Which they, you know, not entirely, but they’ve certainly shifted in a Trumpian direction.”

We don’t know the details of the deal yet but it certainly doesn’t sound like we won much.
We’re going to take some Ls. That doesn’t mean sentiment has shifted. I won’t glaze Carney, but thus far he does appear to actually be fighting, which is more than I can say for anyone CCP or UCP. We’re walking a tight rope right now though. Too aggressive and we end up like Cuba, if not like Iran. Their current leadership doesn’t care that the people won’t like it, or that they are already running low on several critical supply categories. We got comfortable and didn’t diversify the way we should have, taking the easy road to profit and not creating internal resilience. We do appear to be taking the right steps to rectify that but a nation of 50M people doesn’t turn on a dime.
