Potential presidential hopeful running for re-election in Georgia intensifies White House feud after remarks about ‘Natalie’ drew ire of president and allies

The Democratic senator Jon Ossoff called Donald Trump a “draft-dodging, crook president” while defending the senator Mark Kelly as a hero during a Tuesday campaign appearance in Georgia, escalating his public feud with the US president.

“I don’t think anything illustrates the times more aptly than that the draft-dodging, crook president, who has plunged our nation recklessly into a war he knows not how to end or to win, tried to imprison this man, who embodies American heroism,” Ossoff said while appearing alongside Kelly and his wife, the former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

Kelly, a former navy captain, and five other Democratic lawmakers were attacked by Trump last year after they released a social media video saying troops are not required to carry out illegal commands.

Ossoff, who is currently running for re-election to his Senate seat in Georgia and is widely speculated to be eyeing a 2028 presidential run, has received viral attention on social media for his sharp criticism of Trump.

    I’m one of Ossoff’s constituents, and frankly, aside from voting with the party as expected, I’m not aware of anything notable that he’s done.

    However, if his desire to be reelected forces him to increase his vigor in opposing the fascists (or better yet, pushes him left) that’s only a good thing!

      I believe it was Martin O’mally who tried to get “Carnival Barker” to stick as an insult to Trump. It didn’t work. It made him look weak, foolish. Someone maladroit at using insults. Someone not actually willing to draw blood or do damage in a fight. This kind of petty, high browed insulation of an insult. Its for New York Magazine readers. Its for Third Way neoliberals who still want you to value their Ivy League education, even though its cost you any chance at a middle class life.

      If Ossof wants to land a body blow, call Trump a child rapist; say into a microphone that Donald J. Trump rapes children and that his supporters support a pedophile. You can’t soft roll a fight. If you are going to go this way in tactics, you go fully. You can’t halfway do it. And it has to be in a way that shocks and embarrasses Trumps supporters. Not your own.
