In an interview with Punchbowl News, Donald Trump said straight out that his voters just might not show up for GOP candidates this fall. That’s a striking admission of one of the thorniest problems the GOP faces. But it gets worse.     No no no, it’s not an admission of weakness at all. He is incapable of that. It is two contradictory things, at the same time:

    • if Democrats win, it’s because they cheat! Expect a lot of whining after the midterms, which will seem pointless but manifest itself as a series of Jan 6’s in scattered statehouses where the stochastic “freedom fighters” try to fix it themselves.

    • Then, when that fails, he will blame Republicans for not backing him enough, and announce his plans to form a new party. He seems to have (finally!) accepted that he can’t run again, but Donald Trump Jr. will run instead, on an explicit platform of “My Dad’s still in charge”. They won’t even need to change the hats.
