Donald Trump’s $14 million Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool renovation couldn’t stop algae from blooming in the D.C. heat and turning the water a murky shade of green once again.

The unsightly hue plagued the pool just in time for an estimated 125,000 people to descend on Washington for Trump’s “Freedom 250” UFC fights on the White House lawn for his birthday on Sunday — despite work crews spreading chlorine pellets to try to deter algae growth.

The Washington Post reported that the bloom “expanded between Wednesday and Thursday amid wet and warm weather.”

Given the sheer surface area of that pool it’s gotta be a nightmare to maintain too. Sunlight cripples chlorine.

Haha I like that. True! But it’s a double-edged sword because that can quickly accumulate and have the opposite effect, reducing free chlorine and thus efficacy. Pain to drain pool, but really the only solution. I’ve been trying 2 half drains.

The problem is it was supposed to be fixed with the Potomac exchange system, but the water obviously doesn’t circulate fast enough and I don’t think it could without creating a current that would ruin the reflectiness of the pool.
