Donald Trump exacted revenge on Indiana Republican legislators who foiled his redistricting push last year in the state, backing challengers who unseated five incumbents in Tuesday’s primaries, NBC News projects.
One other GOP state senator who faced a Trump-endorsed opponent was locked in a tight race, while another survived.
The double-digit defeats of the five incumbents, some of whom are veterans of the Indiana Legislature, underscore the influence Trump continues to wield over the Republican Party, even as his approval rating among Americans broadly sags amid rising gas prices and the Iran war.
I’m really hoping we can flip Indiana District 9. The last time a non-Republican won the seat was in 2008. But the incumbent is Erin Houchin who is straight up Trump’s ass which hopefully hurts her this year. And Brad Meyer, who was my pick of the Democrats running, won the primary and seems to be a very good and smart guy with sensible policies. It’s the best chance we’ve had in years.
Good luck. Madison had some good folks running Chataqua back when I lived there.
District 9 you say…
I’m human, I swear.
The purge of establishment Republicans who are just as evil but know how to work the system continues…
They’ll get replaced by empty suits just there for the grift, or useful idiots. Either way, they’re more likely to turn on trump when his back is finally against the wall. And more likely to lose general elections than the incumbents.
Fucking with these primaries all over the country will add up. Not just in federal goverment, but pulling a lot of “safe” red states back into competition. And trump needs red state governments if he’s going to try and rig/cancel the presidential election.
MAGA that’s becoming disillusioned would have still turned out in a general for who they stupidly believe has been helping, but if they’re turned off trump, they may not turn out to vote for his picks that just kicked “their guys” out of office when they were happy (again, due to stupidity) with who they had
I saw an interesting observation during returns last night that there was a trend of more rural districts keeping incumbents while those closer to cities flipped to Trunp-endorsed candidates. I’d love it if these redhats get whomped by Dems in the fall,
Kind of still a loss if this moves Republicans more towards gerrymandering and such, plus I’m not sure what’s going to happen in Indiana if all places-- it’s literally one of the most backwards ass places.
Still nice to think about the state finally having a balanced state legislation though if it did happen, though. It gets way too overlooked in general elections, elections which are themselves generally overlooked.
Proving Muricans remain unable to learn…
Trump, via his tech bros, has an internet browsing history on all of those motherfuckers who are scared to be found out, even though there is nothing morally wrong about choking the chicken from time to time, provided that your “arousal material” is legal. But here we are…
