Not really the point but I’m excited for African media orgs to gain more prominence. They hammer home points about neocolonialism in a way Russia & Iran only do sparingly, since it is acknowkedged as a lived reality not a countervailing (no longer?) political theory to the established curriculum of the west
Hearing voices from Africa would be incredibly educational, especially for people in the west.
About time
Unsurprising, and with no sign of stopping. It isn’t simply a matter of the US falling, but China is also rising in approval, and this gap is widening as the old imperialist world order is dying away and multilateralism is rising.
Basically, the dynamic has been that the US used its massive global media penetration to push its propaganda. Today, Chinese media is starting to break out globally creating a counterbalance to the American narrative. And at the same time, American image is starting to visibly crack first in Gaza and now in Iran. I’d argue the trend is now irreversible. China is in a great position to demonstrate leadership during the economic crisis, and its solar panels, batteries, and EVs will be salvation for many countries.
watching the younger generations of my family embrace maga despite their liberal & leftists origins coupled with first hand witnessing tiktok becoming captured along with open source taking it’s first step towards ID verification makes me think that this trend can be reversed.
Perhaps in the US, but China is starting to rival US media on the global stage, it’s far more important economically, and it’s not starting constant wars around the world. I really can’t see how the US image recovers at this point.
Yep, agreed! The electrification of global infrastructure is going to be massive going forward.
we might actually start dealing with the climate crisis in a meaningful way
