In wake of Donald Trump’s call for Republicans to ‘take over’ voting, senator Ruben Gallego urges citizens to take a stand and give the ‘ultimate response’
The Democratic senator Ruben Gallego has proposed that, should Donald Trump try to sabotage the midterm elections, Americans should respond with a general strike that would “grind the country to a halt”.
Earlier this week the US president called for Republicans to “take over” and “nationalise” voting in at least 15 unspecified locations, repeating his false claims that elections are plagued by widespread fraud.
On Thursday Gallego, a senator for Arizona and an Iraq war veteran, warned that Trump could seek to interfere with the November midterms that will determine control of Congress – and urged citizens to fight fire with fire.
General strikes are effective…
But if they cancel/rig elections then it’s not gonna be enough. If that happens, we really only have one box left.
The sad thing is that they’re at the point of general, heck National, level of strikes to bring this whole thing to a halt. But no now it’s ’if they meddle with midterms’. The cans been kicked so far down the road it’s probably not worth recycling.
People keep moving the goalposts “if they do this, it’ll be the last straw. If they do that, it’ll be the last straw” then they do it and nothing happens
Fishermen getting bombed, civilians getting kidnapped, civilians getting executed, foreign leaders getting abducted, rapists getting protected. None of these things were apparently bad enough to call for a general strike. But now that their elections and their power is at risk, all of a sudden they really want a general strike. Dems are just a different side of the same coin, a bunch of power greedy rich fucks who are happy with all the fascism.
Yes, lesser of two evils. It’s a shitty choice, but there’s still a right answer.
If you’re charismatic, energetic, influential, and invincible enough, please create and push for a better third option.
You’re part of them problem
So, start stocking up on food and water and harden your physical defenses against desperate looting.
And try to build support coalitions in your neighborhood and social circles.
Note to self: establish a “social circle.”
Fuck I’ve been saying this since last January.
Just imagine if every GOOD citizen out there spent the last 13 months building their social circles, learning to grow and preserve food, rejecting super-consunerism and using the money they save to build a reserve fund.
I think a few more people would be totally prepared for a general strike.
But no, everyone is still in “head down, go to work, stick to the routine” mode, and I see no reason to expect anything different no matter how bad things get.
Why wait?
This is something that needs to be done. Sadly, this country is so hell-bent on screwing over real Americans that most of us can’t afford to be on strike more than a day or two without severe financial ramifications or outright losing our employment. The best alternative is to also vote with your wallet do not buy do not shop anywhere that supports this administration.
Is Gallego outlining any concepts of a plan for how to go about doing this safely? Some places can get pretty cold in November and people might need money, typically earned via labor, to stay warm and alive.
