What is going on in the US with the canceling of Jimmy Kommel’s TV show? From what I read all he said was that the shooter might be right wing and that MAGA is desperately trying to pin it on the left. That appears exactly mirroring MAGAs messaging who have been blaming the left very hard everywhere, including the President. How is what he does wrong according to his employers but what MAGA is doing OK? I honestly don’t understand the difference

He didn’t even say the shooter might be MAGA, all he said was that the right was looking to pin this on the left before any details were known to the public. They just imagined that he blamed it on MAGA and got pissed off.

    • The FCC threatened to block the Paramount + SkyDance merger unless Colbert was cancelled.
    • Then Colbert was cancelled, effective next year.
    • Trump then said that Kimmel was next.
    • The FCC threatened to block the Nexstar + Tegna merger unless Kimmel was cancelled. Nexstar then told Disney/ABC that they would stop airing Kimmel in the stations that they own and control all over the country.
    • Then Kimmel was cancelled immediately.
    • Trump has no said that Jimmy [Falon?] and Seth [Meyers] are next…
    • Can you guess what will happen next?

Trump the the Republicans are, one-by-one, silencing their most vocal critics and dissenters. They started with news media, then they moved to entertainment media, and from there they will move on to corporate social media next. This is state control of media and blatant censorship of criticism. End of story.

I’m not even exaggerating when I say that the Fediverse will be the last bastion of free speech and political criticism on the internet, because the same pressures that Trump and the Republicans can apply to Paramount and Disney, they can also apply to Reddit, Meta, X, and Oracle. Corporate will ALWAYS capitulate to fascism–they aren’t even bothering to fight back–because the only thing they care about in the slightest is money.

.world does the same narrative shaping that legacy-media, facebook, reddit, etc. does and the free speech & political criticism you’re hoping will live on will do so in the same way it does now; buried into suppression.

You don’t know how to Google things and read? Do you think anybody here has any knowledge they got got from some other method?

Are you suggesting googling around the internet is in all cases better than community discussion with people of varying expertise, some of which can provide tailored evidence to help you find good information? I’m not so sure.

No, not all cases. Fun to make up arguments you can win. Nobody here knows anything more than what googling it would.

But you’re saying you don’t think anybody here has any knowledge they didn’t get from Google, which is just not true. There is some value in community discussion.
