People vote for change. “Nothing will fundamentally change” is not a winning strategy. People will argue about WHAT to change, but supporting the status quo is nevertheless a loosing strategy.
I love how the article posts a picture of Harris right next to the headline. As if anyone even wonders where the blame was going to go. Even Biden himself is getting in on it with his, “I could have beaten trump if I’d run” shtick. It just makes the neolibs look even more ridiculously out of touch than they already did.
“Come get my vote”, and they offer nothing. So they don’t get my vote. Quite simple.
“Logic” like that gave us Trump. Any damage he does is just as much your fault as it is people who voted for him.
‘Logic’ like you just posted is what gave us Trump.
A political parties job is to win elections.
If you know a significant percentage of the population thinks like the person you responded to, and you don’t do anything to win their votes, then you are intentionally trying to lose as effectively as if you worked for the Trump campaign.
It gave us Trump twice, after all.
You know what didn’t? Promising people shit.
A citizens job is to vote for the best available option. They failed in their basic responsibilities.
Is an opinion held by people who want to lose an election, and would rather lose than have to entertain a single bit of constructive criticism.
Thanks for Trump. You should be ashamed of having such a short term viewpoint that got us Trump.
The only people that got us Trump are the people who actively didn’t prevent him from winning, i.e. everyone who didn’t vote for Harris.
No. It’s the campaign consultants that drove a failed strategy based on tacking to the right, and people like you that try to protect those consultants jobs by shaming others.
Saying politicians have to earn votes is not a moral statement in the same way that saying the sun rises in the east isn’t.
It is a statement of fact about the game board that politicians play on. Complaining about that is useless for actually winning. It just serves to protect those that failed you. ie the DNC’s campaign team.
EDIT: What does your view give you? A brief moment of self-righteous joy, with no improved chances of winning. You think trying to shame people you want something from will get them to give it to?
Or do you think treating the people you require something from as a power bloc that has concessions made to it is more likely to get you what you want?
Look at elections around the world. Incumbents are losing everywhere because they are being blamed for the economy. That’s it. That is the only reason Democrats lost. There is literally nothing they could have done to change that.
Years of Covid fucked the global economy and it will take years to heal that damage. Prices will NEVER return to what they were pre-Covid. That is the reality and people can’t handle it. I’m not defending the Democrats, I’m defending reality.
We tried to warn you. Centrists would rather lose to trump, lose democracy forever, and blame people who can read the writing on the wall than ever think of attempting to appeal to their base.
Their base showed up. They didn’t realize how little the average person understood the threat Trump poses. People encouraging apathy and both-sides talk (helped to a certain degree by foreign online influence) won the election for Trump.
Their base showed up.
The Democratic base didn’t show up in sufficient numbers to beat Trump. Harris’ base showed up, but her base all has the last name Cheney.
The Democrat base didn’t have the numbers to beat Trump on its own. They needed centrists, people who only vote periodically, and never-Trumpers to show up in sufficient numbers to make up the difference. Trump’s threat is so obvious to the base that they assumed those groups would see the same and show up to vote against Trump. They underestimated how much disinformation and ignorance would dull the threat and make both sides seem the same.
Whatever lies you need to tell yourself in order to justify moving even further to the right next time.
“fault” is about as useful a concept as kharma points on an anonymous website.
