I think the author has missed the single biggest reason our left are holding onto votes, and it’s because they actually care for the working class. Labour are, after all, the party of the working class, and they do seem to keep that close to heart.
In the US, the Republicans did an amazing job of courting the working class, by promising to bring manufacturing back to the US, clamp down on immigration etc.
The fact that Labour is actually a competent organisation, unlike the Democrats, is another important factor.
I don’t think that’s enough to overcome the hate this coalition is pushing towards immigrants, Maori, Homosexuals, Trans people etc. The driving force of the right is white christian supremacy and nationalism and due to hard work of Luxon, Seymour, and Peters it’s starting to take hold.
