  • If they actually cared, just publish a standard that sites declare their minimum age range. Then make apple and Google add a “child mode” that filters this at the DNS level when you set up a device. As it’s opt-in, sites would be responsible for what they’re declaring

Tech savvy kids will probably be able to get past it, but let’s be honest… Nothing would stop them

Honestly, I’d even support something like this, and I think you’d get voluntary adoption. Advertisers would like this, it’s not very burdensome technically, and it would give a safer legal framework for everyone

But of course, this isn’t really about the kids…

  • Well… The EU further increasing their regulations and punishments on US mega corps would be welcome. Official programs for medical tourism would also be nice, even in countries without universal healthcare the costs are cheaper even with a round trip flight to another continent

We also have a very impulsive and narcissistic manchild about to return to the white house. He’s deeply insecure and likes to project - if figures mock and laugh at him publicly enough from the right angle, he’ll respond. He’s a wildcard so it’ll be like hearding cats, but in the absurdist state of the country it could actually help us

Or it can be as simple as treating us like oppressed victims. The US as the land of freedom and opportunity is an image that holds us back… We’re not very free and we have very few opportunities (unless you’re rich). Chipping holes in that facade really gets to some people

We might be the largest military and economic power, but we’re largely brainwashed by optics, and so that’s a weak spot that can be exploited

  • They’re both based on the same source material - various mythological creatures and real animals with a twist

I used to think Pokemon was super original - but a lot of it just seems they way because we don’t learn much about Japanese or asian folklore overseas.

Like take Magikarp. There’s a Chinese proverb about a carp leaping through the dragons gate (an actual waterfall) turning into a dragon (meant to describe how with diligence a common person could become powerful through the civil official exams)… The weak magic carp, if diligently leveled, can become a Chinese dragon that looks exactly like the ones they use in parades.

Meouth - a wealth giving cat, many asian shops have a cat figure with a gold coin for luck. And Persian is just a lioness (a bigger cat) with the same design.

    Vulpix/Ninetails - nine tailed fox

Ekans - snakE. Arbok - kobrA. Pidgey - pigeon. Pigiotto, pigeot? Reminds me of fire, fira, firaga, firaja naming scheme from final fantasy

Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan - Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan

Noticably, most of these puns and references to actual people are not copied, instead it is things like wolves and mythological creatures

If anything, it’s the style of the art that makes them so similar - but copying aesthetics is how art grows and develops. It’s not like they were the first or only ones to copy the style either
