Milei really looks like an Al Franken character.
I really hope what she has to say is “In hindsight, I sure was wrong about having a private email server and using it for government work. I don’t know why, but it took me until Elon Musk started running private servers at government offices to realize that only fully vetted government servers should be used on government networks.”
But, that’s probably not it.
You spelled Mastodon with almost none of the right letters.
It’s not unreasonable to want a contract to be fair. In a proper contract, both sides benefit.
What’s childish is that he apparently doesn’t know the first thing about the effect tariffs have, and what a trade balance means.
The nice thing about this bullshit is that when the tariffs come down, there’s still going to be a lot of resentment in Canada and Mexico.
Don’t think that just because Trump reverses himself, declares victory, and drops the tariffs (like he did with Mexico), that Canadians are suddenly going to go right back to buying American products. His stunt is going to cause long-term pain for American companies trying to sell goods in Canada and Mexico.
Like all Church schisms it’s “we’re the only ones who are right about how our god is supposed to be worshiped”, so they don’t feel bad about taking the names of Anglicans or Catholics because they think that those other groups are doing religion wrong, so who cares if it’s confusing.
Anglican really just means a version of the Catholic church splintered off by Anglo-Saxons
The proto-Anglicans stopped being Catholics when King Henry the 8th couldn’t get the pope to annul his marriage, so he split the English church from the Catholic church. So, for 500 years, the Anglicans haven’t been Catholics. And it has nothing to do with “Anglo-Saxons”. Anglo-Saxons are a cultural group from the middle ages. The Church of England and Anglicanism comes from centuries later and applies to the country of England under the king Henry the 8th. The Church of England and/or Anglicanism doesn’t date from the middle ages, it was effectively a political construction due to the king wanting a divorce and not to have to answer to the pope. But, the reasons behind the split don’t really matter as much as the fact that the people following churches related to that split haven’t recognized the authority of the pope for centuries, so they’re not Catholics.
In this case, the name is really misleading because the Anglicans don’t consider them to be Anglican, the Catholics definitely don’t consider them to be Catholics, and you can’t really merge the Anglican and Catholic faiths because they’re so different.
Not according to the Catholic church. They’re not Anglicans according to the Anglican church either.
So, instead of Canada becoming the 51st state, the suggestion is that Canada just loses BC? How about we dismiss all the options where Canada loses territory?
Also, if BC seceded, it would only be a matter of time before Quebec did too.
I’m not fundamentally against the idea of states splitting off or joining up. There’s no reason that the configuration of countries should always stay as they are in 2025. But, the reasons should be good. If there truly is a “Cascadian” culture, then yeah, maybe a nice separation agreement could be negotiated that’s fair to everyone. But, having spent time in Vancouver, Seattle, San Fransisco and LA, I sure don’t see it. The cultural difference even between SF and LA is pretty huge. And, I can’t imagine that most people in BC would be keen to accept the guns of America, and the lack of free health care. Or, going the other way, would Americans be willing to give up their guns to join Cascadia?
It just seems to me that every time the world adds borders or moves borders, the result is conflict. I hope that over time there are fewer borders, and that the borders matter less. But, the only way to do it while avoiding war is really to do it slowly.
