I can see the argument for Russia to an extent, but how is China imperialistic? From what I understand they’ve helped lift up nations in the global south (and not in a “do this or else we will overthrow your government” kind of way). I’ve found that most people understand that signing up for an email service like Gmail allows them to communicate with people who aren’t on Gmail. Tie that in to explaining federation.

What I think sets them apart:

• the art
• the setting and vibe
• melee combat controls

What I think they severely lack:

• sometimes it feels like I have to google nearly everything in these games because they never explain mechanics/items/quests properly. Most people would argue that’s part of the charm, but I don’t think it’s executed well at all.
• Basic combat is generally very fluid, but there are things that are just straight trash, such as ranged weapons. I just won’t use those weapons for anything other than pulling mobs away from others
• the story is just so abstract sometimes that I rarely know etc is going on
• co-op multiplayer sucks. It really says something when a player-created mod works better than a system that’s been in multiple games

Yeah, I think one of the reasons the AI bubble hasn’t popped yet is because it’s being weaponized to remove consumer hardware from the market entirely. These companies want as much processing done on the cloud as possible so that they can control, monitor and mine data from every user.

The end result is AI games flooding the market making it harder for small devs to be discovered in a sea of hastily generated slop. Can you make a full, good game with AI? Maybe some day. But for every “good” AI game, there’s going to be 10000 shitty games that are just functional enough to trick people into paying $5.

Been thinking a lot about this. I think it’s going to be more prison labor. New crimes will be invented and punishments for existing crimes will become more severe in order to put more people behind bars.

Given the way things are going, i think that the homeless will be an initial target, but I think we’re also going to see an unprecedented criminalization of our children. Children already have fewer rights in school, so it will be easy to transfer that idea to the workplace. States like Iowa have already started rolling back child labor laws. The path ahead of the USA looks dark.

I had a discussion/argument in ~2018 with a friend who is/was very anti-trump. I brought up the dangers of ICE and how, at the time, they were the biggest sign of an overtly fascist future. He immediately handwaved it and dismissed me as crazy.

He’s got a degree in history education and was obsessed with WW2 history, so I didn’t think this would be a point of contention. But for a lot of liberals (including him) Fascists have to literally be wearing a swastika before they’re called what they are. Unfortunately, I would guess that school shooter locations are probably the most easily recognised in the US. Uvalde has a population of ~15,000, for instance.
