Yes we are, Trump is building up Hitler/Putin style. Taking control of secret and security services and using ICE too against both judges and police that object.
USA will not remain a democracy unless something serious is done within 3 years.
But even dictators with strong police and military backup can be overthrown if the people rebel in big enough numbers.
No security system can hold against the masses of the population.
It looks more an more like that’s where USA is heading. Maybe Trump is too stupid to see it, he may actually just be manipulated by people around and behind him, who really wants STRONG leadership, which they imagine means fascist dictatorship.
It’s scary how a country that for many many lifetimes claimed democracy as one its biggest virtues, can fall so far so fast.
It’s also scary how a country that consider the constitution almost as holy scripture, doesn’t give a shit about the most crucial cornerstones of that constitution.

You are absolutely right, USA is extremely authoritarian in many ways, towards children including their own, in all sorts of institutions. It is very much based on the might makes right mentality. The economic thinking is of course different with free market. But the authoritarian mindset is much like Stalinism.


I disagree, most people that are religious, are brought up with religion. Their ability for rational thought is compromised from childhood.

Religion is based on delusions without evidence, and the beliefs and practices are harmful to both individuals and society.

This type of delusional thinking is very typical in USA, based on the idea that if you want it enough you can make it.
This mantra has become so pervasive that some have begun to believe that you don’t even have to do anything to achieve what you want. If the wanting is strong enough, reality will bend to your will.
This is what happens in an anti science society where the mentality is driven by religion and superstition combined with desperation and a wish for ultimate freedom.
The idea is spread for instance through numerous self help books and prosperity gospel.

It’s basically as bad as USA, and also a dysfunctional democracy. They even had the chance to change that in a public vote, and the idiots voted against it!!
A FAIR democracy is a democracy where all interest groups can have representation, although you typically have a lower limit of 2-5% vote to get representation.
And where every vote is counted equally, so a vote in 1 end of the country counts as much for representation as a vote in the other end.
And representation is according to the populous vote and nothing else.
My perspective is that I don’t see democracy as any more virtuous than authoritarianism as a political system when elected officials aren’t serving the people’s interests.
Well technically it isn’t really a democracy then, because their job is to serve their constituents.
Of course the worse the democracy the more that can be the case. And USA is a very bad democracy.
Still even that was way better than not having democracy until the Republicans went full blown sociopathic, and was still rewarded government power.
Something I suspect will only happen in a very bad democracy without equal democratic representation by minor parties.
