You want a device called a “nas” that has wireless.

The person who said synology is telling you one brand of nas.

If your hdds are external then you want one that supports usb.

Can you tell me what you mean, or link to something that is what you mean?

There are products called “home cloud” but they’re not all close to what you’ve described.

For example western digital has a line of products called home cloud but that might not be what you’re asking for.

It proly is. My idea is a gard drive cloud that you can connect to with WiFi and interexchange files with. WP definitely rings a bell, i just hope theres more private less chatty resources available

You just want a wireless nas. Are your extant drives external ones you plug up with usb or are they a bunch of internal ones you would need to put inside a computer?

Localsend should do the job of copy and paste. You can also selfhost your own private alternative of Pastebin, there’s dozens of them online.

For the local cloud storage, you may use Nextcloud (AIO), Seafile, Owncloud or (for images) Immich.

I use a Synology NAS specifically because I like their app ecosystem.

Edit: I also have used LocalSend and think its great for a one-off device-to-device transfer.

I’m not sure exactly what you mean, but we use our Synology over WiFi (its connected via ethernet to the router though). It runs backup apps but also the computers in the house can mount it as if it was a connected drive.

If I have a mac, is it like a plug in HDD without me needing to physically connecy the two devices?

If so, then thats a bingo

Like it basicaly a wireless intrnal server, right?

Not exactly but nearly so. Once it’s setup, go to Network in Finder on the Mac. You should see it there with the name you assigned it. When you click on it you’ll need to give it the user credentials you created when you set it up. You should be able to save these in the Mac Keychain so it won’t ask again in the future. If you have multiple users you can set each one up with their own account on the Synology NAS and they will do the same when they want to use it but with their credentials.

Synology also provides desktop backup client apps for Windows, Mac, and Debian-based Linux distros, plus apps for Android & iOS so you can access the files or backup photos directly to it.
