At one point gore verbinski was trying to get an adaptation of bioshock off the ground as well. He couldn’t get the financing unless agreed to make it pg-13, but he was only interested in making a hard r-rated version.
As it should be, what out of touch suited stooge would think you could pull off BioShock at the same rating as shrek?
What? Shrek is a PG movie for children… They wanted a PG-13 rating target. It’s the equivalent of T for teens in video games.
Maybe the producer insisted the plot must include a giant mechanical spider.
