I first thought the vote happened under Kerry-Lynne Findlay however the vote was under Trevor Halford. The bill was proposed by Tara Armstrong, who is a major bigot. All the votes in favour of reaping the Human Rights Act were all from the Conservative Party.

Apparently, it’s tradition in BC to vote in favour of the first reading to encourage debate. In fact, the MLAs don’t get to read the bill at First Reading, in order to see the contents of the bill, MLAs have to vote yes at First Reading. This is a terrible fucking idea. MLAs should know what is exactly in the bill at First Reading.

On March 12, 2026, the NDP moved a motion to affirm support for the Human Rights Code, that only had 3 votes against.s Surprise, surprise, the trio of bigots voted against it. The trio is Tara Armstrong, Dallas Brodie, and Jordan Kealy. Who all left the Conservative Party when Dallas Brodie was kicked out for saying very racist things.

To complicate everything more, the Conservative Party of BC has voted against bills at First Reading, such as the bill advance by Dallas Brodie to ban land acknowledgments and to cancel the stat holiday for National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, also advanced by Dallas Brodie.

On one hand, I can see the argument for “it’s just routine, so we vote yes and we don’t know what’s in it” is valid and then on the other hand, any bill advanced by Dallas Brodie or Tara Armstrong should always be voted down.

Ya cuz conservatives are full of shit. They only follow decorum when it’s advantageous. I mean come on! They called their last party the “BC Liberals”. Like anyone giving them the benefit of the doubt needs to stop!
