House Republicans threatened to defund state and local police departments that seek to make their own policies instead of allowing ICE to decide how they are run.

The Republican Party, since the rise of Trump, has consistently been in favor of defunding the police. Trump’s defunding of the police has involved slashing federal grants to local law enforcement. Trump’s budgets have consistently called for lower police funding.

On Tuesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York said that Trump is defunding the police in her state by refusing to release counterterrorism funds: “Let me translate that in real simple terms: Donald Trump is defunding the police.”

    The only reason they would want to defund police would be to make all law enforcement federal. And if that doesn’t scare you, it should. It’s already happening with local police departments working with ICE and getting big federal grants to do it. Next county over the elected sheriff is now on federal government payroll.
