not murican but I’d vote for him just because he seems cool. Even if he didn’t seem cool I’d still vote for him because the republican candidates would all rape your children the moment you look away then shoot your dog when you look back and shoot your visible minority neighbour after that just for an extra layer of distraction, then bill you for all of it.

This guy is apparently the first black candidate who is a member of the DSA who is going to be elected to the state House (and yes, he is going to be elected: in the 58th district, the token Republican has absolutely zero chance). He is, however, far from the first leftist/socialist rep from that or other nearby districts.
The main news here is that DSA as an organization is becoming more popular, such that leftist candidates are willing to be affiliated with the label “democratic socialist” instead of calling themselves “progressive” or whatever.
The biggest buzz kill right now is as we keep winning we have this large part of the left that is so use to losing that they can’t recognize what winning looks like.
We have a democratic Zionist that took millions from AIPAC going on Fox News and effectively bending the knee and saying “I will be supporting Abdul”. We don’t have to like her. But there is this paranoia on the left that this is somehow tainting Abdul.
No, this is us winning. They are deciding that their only option is to bend the knee to our popularity and realizing that actually fighting the right is their only option. They faught Mamdani and realized how unpopular that made them. Yes, they want to keep their jobs. And if they stand behind and pass socialist policy, we’ll let them. That’s ok. We want policy.
As we gain power these Stevens or Harris endorsements will be unnecessary. But, right now, they aren’t bad. Let’s lose the pessimism.
Look back at 2023 and see where we came from. Keep working and we can look back at 2026 and also think about how far we’ve come.
The Democratic party is lined up to do a unity tour behind Hong after she wins tonight. We put them in a position that they are forced into supporting us.
My biggest surprise is that these establishment Democrats are actually working for the survival of their party. I honestly thought we have to keep fighting them like we had to do with Mamdani. But, that’s not bad. It shows how strong we’ve become.
In a way, this is similar to what the Republican party was forced into with Trump’s primary win. All those Republicans that didn’t bend the knee are gone now.
We will get there with the DSA. We will have to fight them again. But, right now, they aren’t fighting us past a primary. So let’s take the bump and fight the right when the Democrats are bending the knee.
Mathewos Samson, a 27-year-old software integration engineer, is competing against Republican Torrey Balam to replace retiring state House Rep. Park Cannon in the Georgia General Assembly. His June primary win in the dark-blue district makes him the odds-on favorite to become the first Black member of the Democratic Socialists of America to serve in the Gold Dome.
Samson’s platform includes getting corporate landlords out of the single-family home business by forcing them to sell the houses they’ve bought, not just capping the number they can own. He also supports Medicare for All and getting money out of politics.
“We don’t take money from corporations because we represent people’s interests,” Samson said. “We need to take our government back and have something that actually represents all of us.”
